If anyone other than Romney wins the Republican nomination Obama is going to run a f*cking riot and the Republican butthurt will be glorious, GLORIOUS I say!

Even Romney would probably lose....just wouldn't get smacked like any of the other candidates

Polls right now say that Obama is not in a good position with voters. His approval rating is not looking good with the rising gas prices and the projected rise of unemployment to 9% just in time for the election. Romney may very well have a chance especially considering that no president has ever been elected or re-elected with the unemployment rate that high....though again Obama is a historic president in and of himself.

As for Newt....hell no. Though Democrats and liberals would absolutely love to see him get the nomination. All. but assures Obama a certain victory.

Historically, the incumbent has had a 90% chance of winning re-election. With this group of Republicans running, then I'd add another 10 to that number.

At least Santorum is honest about being a bigot.

Slam dunk for Obama, you can't win the general election without a moderate candidate.

Santorum's an out of touch, religious whackjob. Romney's a shifty, disingenuous douche, and Newt's a cheating fat blob who also moonlights as a religious whackjob and disingenuous douche.

Obama's in a much better position now than when I last posted in this thread so that's a good thing, leading them all by 10+ points. He'll have this sewn up by summer I believe.

And it's not even that I like Obama a great lot, but he believes in reason, that's pretty much enough to want him in office.

But most presidents get re-elected, it's just when they screw up big time that they don't, I don't even think that latent racism will stop Obama, all in all his presidency was decent so far.

Dealt with a great economic crisis okayish, was boss with his surgical strikes in the ongoing wars, iE drone attacks and Seal Team 6, much better than wasting thousands of soldiers lives in broad military maneuvers.

Don't ask don't tell was overturned under his watch, which is nice. Now if he could just muster the balls to close Guantanamo like he promised and make the US administration follow it's own laws, iE restore Habeus Corpus.

"Non-lawful combatants" is a concept a country like Soviet Russia or current North Korea would've come up with. The US don't need it, they shouldn't want it, and are cheapened as a democracy by it.

Couldn't agree more on that last bit. Guantanamo is a stain on our reputation.

Obama really did flirt with the idea of putting the wheels in motion to close it, but that was when he was still afraid of the GOP and was in his "let's work together" phase. Then he played around with the idea of trying to shift those prisoners to penitentiaries all over the nation....which was met with mixed to high critical response, mostly by republicans.

So in essence, they criticized him for trying to close it and they criticized him for trying to find alternatives to it. Basically spells that they want it right where it is, to remain a stain on a reputation.

Of course they opposed him, they wanted him to look bad. But I'm sure he could've just closed it by executive order. Just move all interned prisoners to POW camps and determine their actual guilt there, if you can't build a case, maybe keep them as POWs if you want to be a dick, but they should've been released. If they're actual terrorists and you have evidence, try them in a civilian court for crimes like murder/treason/whatever and execute/imprison for life. If they're just regular old Taliban or whatever, treat tham as the POWs they are and let them go free once the war is over.

And until then: treat your captives decently, as a proper democracy should. Just a couple years back the Americans did treat my grandfather well as a POW. You'd think war would have gotten less barbaric since then.

An executive order is probably what he'll eventually do if he wins a 2nd term. He won't have to worry about whether he'll be liked enough for re-election at that point.

We're better than this though. As a Yank, it's highly embarrassing.

Unfortunately for Obama, the current political environment means that if he does move to close Guantanamo the Republicans will move to block other Democratic bills in Congress. Obama had to weigh up getting his economic and other measures past through the legislature against closing Guantanamo. Hopefully if/when he wins re-election it will give the Democrats a boost in their other election races.

Sad thing is, if Romney stood by Romneycare, he would've had a chance against Obama, but no chance in the Republican primaries.

True story.
