Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
As biased as i would be to scholes, i feel Xavi is the greatest CM to have ever played the game, European, World, Club champion plus so much more. And to add all to it, hes done it at an extremly high consistency.

He really is a machine. The fact that he does it for Spain and Barca makes it more incredible, and contrary to popular belief he's still got a good 3-4 years left in him to play at a very high level as getting old will not kill his game.
I think at the end of his career he will be the best CM no doubt, but right now it's a little too early to say so.

This, with Cesc and Thiago needing minutes Xavi will get alot of much needed rest and rotation which will let him play much longerdnmac4 wrote:He really is a machine. Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
Best I've ever seen. He's so good...
As said, a couple more titles, perhaps a CL-for example- and there isn't much choice. He's won all there is in football except Ballon D'or tbh.
OOoooo now I really want him to win it this year...
EDIT: Excluding obvious things like PL etc. I mean he's won everything he can in football, and more specifically, the big ones. WC's and CL's

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
I don't deal with 'greatest ever', but he's certainly the best I've seen. Ballack, Pirlo and Scholes have all been greats of an era, but Xavi is just a freak.
In terms of players of all time that could match him, tho only player I personally know of is indeed Mathaus.

This.
Xavi is the arguably the greatest of his era. I would agree to that. But you can't say he's the best "ever" as it's impossible to compare two different players playing in different times.

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
Has there been midfielders with a bigger goal threat? definitely
Has thier been midfielders who are more complete? most likely
Has their been midfielders who are defensively more aware? definitely
But imo i have never seen in my life time a CM who just consistently dominated the opposition time after time......
It's a shame he will never win Balon D'or.

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
I think he’s the best in his specialization (tempo dictation, possession and distribution) and one of the best definitely.
To say he’s the best ever is far fetched as it would be for any player in any position

Anyway. Zico, Platini, Zidane... Imo they were all better than him. Just to name a few I can think of right now.

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
I cant speak for Zico but Platini and Zidane clearly, have won Ballon D'ors and many of them infact.
I am all for Midfielders recieving recognition and once he retires he will go down as the best player never to have won a Ballon D'or.Still a possibility of him winning it although i feel its slim especially this year.
