End to a summer soap opera. The Portuguese defender Fabio Coentrao is new player of Real Madrid. Has been told the Confidential , the negotiations held on Monday Florentino Perez and Luis Filipe Vieira (president of Benfica) in the Spanish capital came to fruition.

I still think Coentrao will compete with Marcelo for the left back slot. Ramos and Arbeloa for the right back. Pepe, Carvalho, Albiol and Varane for the CB slots. That would mean every position will have at least one natural back up and not a make shift. It makes sense in that way in other words, no more Arbeloa at left back, otherwise I don't see the sense in buying him.

I think that if we were to sign a player to rotate with Marcelo, we would have gone for someone like Monreal. To me, Coentrao and Marcelo are too alike and we would be paying excess for him to play in that capacity.

Yep... once Aguero comes, then it's on to the sales portion of our offseason. I think this all comes together in 2-3 total honestly.

Yeah. Benzema's agent today hinted that, although Benz didn't want to move, he did not know if Madrid wanted to sell Benz. That's a big change from "neither Madrid nor Karim want Karim out of Madrid" line he has been feeding all 2011.

It's also interesting that there's a video interview on the Juve section of Aguero... and Aguero states that Juve are the only ones to have made a formal offer to Atleti so far.

Actually, I just read what you may have..

In fact, Benfica has informed the Commission of Securities Market ( CMVM ) has reached an agreement with Real Madrid to push the federative rights of Fabio Coentrao by 30 million euros . The operation of the transfer of Ezequiel Garay is independent and will be assessed separately.

If this is true, I will be stunned.

They will buy Garay independently.

so it ends up being, we pay 30M, we sell for 10M so the deal is 20M+ garay?

Yes that's how it would work.

I will be stunned because it seemed a given that it would be all in a single deal, but for accounting purposes, it actually makes sense to do them separately. It gives more clarity to each asset sold and purchased.

Abola reports Benfica receieved 30 mil for Coentrao, no reports of Garay being included in this deal. Benfica reported to the Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários (CMVM) that they will recieve 30 mil.

I really don't see anything more from it.

I think it was just to make things a little more interesting. The general agreement was already made and foreseen by the papers, so a little spice was in order until the specifics were finalised.
