pick your midfield vs Spurs
Im torn between having to chose from Coqulin and Frimpong. I think that each of them offer different abilities on the pitch. Coquilin has a better work rate, and better distribution (Although I am not sure about him going against the likes of stoke), Frimpong on the other hand has the shear strength to bully the CM of the opposition (while lacking the discipline during tackles).
And because Ramsey and Rozza are really out of forum.... I suggest that we go with a MF trio of Coqulin, Frimpong and Arteta against the Spurs- while bringing in Arshavin for a striker towards the final quarter of the game(switching from a 4-3-3, to 4-2-3-1).
Your thoughts....

Re: pick your midfield vs Spurs
I'd go with Frimpong-Coquelin double pivot too, given that we are short defensively and this is an away match. Coquelin can switch between DM and B2B roles while Frimpong should stay back and defend/destroy. He should also be aware of Lennon and Bale on the wings.
Arteta can take up a relatively advanced midfield role.
It is important to have fast strikers given a Kaboul-Dawson [read: slow as hell] CB pairing for Spuds. I guess Walcott and Gervinho would fit the bill if they are fit.
Otherwise, AoC and Gervinho is a lethal combination too. I wouldn't want to start Arshavin unless its really needed due to injuries. He can do well as a super sub.
I'd be happy of we can come away with a point tbh. Reality check.

Re: pick your midfield vs Spurs
In the NLD, attack is the best form of defence.
No point in going with a double pivot, and we should just go all out attack, and let our high powered front line do some damage.
Frimpong over Coquelin simply cause the kid bleeds Arsenal, and this is one of those matches where you need that extra bit of determination and grit to take you over the top.
Ramsey is obviously starting cause he was given a break against Olympiacos and Arteta as the advanced forward.

Re: pick your midfield vs Spurs
it will be a HIGH scoring match
7-6 to Arsenal lol
My midfield ?
Frimpong Arteta and Ramsey
Frimpong bleeds Arsenal, his passion would win us the match alone

It pains me to say this but, our offence isn't anywhere near as potent as last year. Relying on our attackers alone to win the game for us is committing suicide. What we need to do is take out Modric and VDV out of the game.

Agreed. And neutralize the Bale too. He is starting right? God, I can't believe I have counted so many key men among Spuds. I am shocked. :/

Forget about Bale, Sagna has the right side on lock.

since before olympiacos. he was doing pretty poor actually. holding the ball too long, missing passes, low activity etc.

Re: pick your midfield vs Spurs
Low activity? That's just horribly horribly horribly wrong. Look at the stats of km covered before you start talking about low activity. Rambo was the person who would cover the most distance in almost all of our matches. His passing % has been around the 90s as well. The only issue was/is holding the ball too long, and that was mainly when he played with Rosicky due to bad understanding between the two of them. He had 4 assists in 7 (Now 8, including the Olympiacos game where he came on as a sub in the last 10-15 minutes). So an assist every two games. Hardly "poor".

Szczesny
Sagna - Mertesacker - Miquel - Andre
Walcott - Song - Arteta - Gervinho
Van Persie - Arshavin
Sagna - Mertesacker - Miquel - Andre
Walcott - Song - Arteta - Gervinho
Van Persie - Arshavin
Since you lack midfielders, why push a formation with 3 central ones?

Great post! Agree on everything you wrote. I dont know why people prefer Coquelin over Ramsey because he is doing great according to me.Iceman wrote:Low activity? Re: pick your midfield vs Spurs
I do fear the the ocassion will get to Frimpong. We know he bleeds Arsenal will probably be feeling very up to this game.
I think we should play him, but that is the fear I have.
Otherwise, Arteta's experience is a must and I'd rather have Ramsey over Rosicky at this point.
As for the forwards, if fit then definitely Walcott and Gervinho. Walcott's pace gave Spurs so much trouble last season at WHL and Gervinho should follow suit. If not, I'd be tempted to go with Benayoun. It's a bit too soon for Chamberlain, I think. Super-sub at best for this game.
