New CL format???
Well, it is my idea. What do you think?
4 groups with 8 clubs, 4 teams per group advancing to 1/8. That would mean 4 mini leagues.
That is 14 games in group stage for everyone (now they play 6). So 7 home games.
Format after group stage stays same, 16 clubs, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 two-legged matches, 1 final game.
So, more games, and big teams faceing each other more times. Even if you do not qualify you will get more money from tickets, and that would be very good for weaker clubs. Players will be under bigger pressure, but there is 25 players in squad, they can rotate, and weaker domestic clubs will have more chance against "tired" CL teams in domestic league.
More games, more goals, more fun, more quality, more money.
More injuries, more pressure, NT will suffer.
Groups (with this year teams) could be like this:
A: Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter, Dortmund, Lille, Shakhtar, Basel, Apoel.
B: Villareal, United, Napoli, Porto, Lyon, Zenit, Trazbonspor, Viktoria.
C: Real, Chelsea, Bayern, Benfica, Marseille, CSKA, Otelul, Genk
D: Valencia, City, Milan, Levercusen, Ajax, Olympiacos, Dinamo Z., Bate.
Disscuss :!:

Re: New CL format???
Well, due to the risk of more injuries due to the heavier stress on the players I would not be in favour of such a format.
And mind you, there are countries (other than England, that is) where players really want to play well for the NT

It ain't broken,don't fix it.
I won't be too happy with two parallel leagues, there would also be too much derbies which would kill the joy of quarters,semis,etc...

What about 6 groups of 6?
I think something has to be done, group stages is a bit boring when you have the likes of Bate Borisov, Oteliy, or other puffs like those in your group.

Re: New CL format???
I'm sure that Dinamo Zagreb would rather play 14 games in CL than 3 seasons in domestic league.
This format would help weaker clubs to get some money, so they can be better next season.
To much derbies? How can be too much derbies? To much money? To much sex? To much joy? LOL There is no "to much" for those things.

Already most midweek days are occupied by domestic cup competions and and international friendlies. So its not viable for scheduling.

I'd rather have one encounter, and let it be epic than have them played and played and played...Until we go numb and a derby is just a regular game.

Well usually the Milan matchs vs Madrid always have a sense of long tradition and generally are very entertaining matchs.
But I can understand Lyon as enough is enough along with the matches being average.
I feel bad RM fans have to go through this.

Re: New CL format???
Well, with the more matches, teams like BATE Borriseau etc would play more matches, too. And didn't you just say you'd consider such matches more boring?

Re: New CL format???
In another thread you've mentioned about this idea and you say a team having a squad of 25 players ,so with Rotation system that'll enable teams to perhaps avoid player fatigue when cl is played every week ?!
Not every team is a Real Madrid and Barcelona to have not only a world class team but a quality bench too..It would only work in the favour of teams such as this..And it also too an extent could prove detrimental to the domestic league too especially the high profile ones for eg.you might see Milan fielding Oddo and Bonera in a random league game just to give adequate rest to their star players if you follow the 'rotation system' irrespective of the outcome of the result..
Also in short this format becomes too tedious..
This might work in Fifa 11 though..

The group stage will be wayyyy too long. The english players would probably prefer a marathon before practice everyday than this shit.

The english players would probably prefer to run a charity marathon before each match than this format coming into effect.

Re: New CL format???
meh, the scheduals are already tight enough, playing more games will create more problems than you can imagine.
