Mr x is a trequartista yessssss

KEVIN-PRINCE BOATENG reveals he will not be used as a trequartista anymore.

The Ghana man played a key role in Milan’s Scudetto success last season playing behind the strikers and he scored the winning goal of Milan against Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana last week from that position.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri has suggested that Boa will be kept there even this season, but now Kevin admits that the former Cagliari boss has already told him that he will return to the midfield next season.

“My favorite role is that of the trequartista, I enjoy it, but not for long,” Boateng told Tuttosport. “Allegri has called me to tell me that in the future I will have to play in midfield, right or left. I think the team as it is, is complete. I do not believe that a purchase is essential, but I don’t decide. That being said, if someone arrives then we can to win something, so be it. Competition is good for individuals and good for the team.”

Milan have always claimed that a new left midfielder would arrive but perhaps the real target of Milan is an attacking midfielder. Riccardo Montolivo and Alberto Aquilani both can be used as a trequartista.

I don't dislike having Boateng as the attacking midfielder, and it makes sense in many ways. His stamina and mentality allow him do lots of the dirty work that attackers normally won't do. His energy and direct style of play give strikers such as Ibrahimovic the privilege to remain in optimal condition over the course of a 90 minute match. A move back to the LCM or RCM role would allow for more attacking talent on the pitch at once (more Cassano and Robinho!?!), though it would come at a certain cost.

What this team really needs is an exceptional midfield player, though we may already have our Mr. X in Kevin Prince Boateng.

This Milan can become world class with only one or two more additions. I would be very pleased to see Montolivo and one other player join - be it Aqualani, Balotelli, Kaka, or any other Mister X on whom my mind dares to dream!

Sadly, the time is coming closer when our midfield legends no longer play. Pirlo has left (I still think we will regret it), and Seedorf, Ambrosini, Gattuso will eventually go as well. I still think Gattuso deserves his starting role, though for Milan's future these beloved players will have accept less time on the pitch over the coming season. A new dynasty of energetic midfield players awaits.

Well isn't this only half good news? Boateng has proven to be a very successful and effective CAM and so I would only be happy with moving him if we have something better in mind.

We have two options then. Make a new signing or move Robinho back to the treq. position he failed in when he first arrived. The first option is only good if the player purchased is something better than what Boateng would be (Aqua and Monty cannot play CAM) and second option does not work as Robinho has already failed to play well in that position once and seeing as nothing has changed since then, why would he succeed this time round?

It could be that Robinho or Cassano are being deployed in CAM.

---------Aquilani--Van Bommel--KPB--------------
----------------------Cassano----------------------

That's a dangerous looking lineup- a new DM is needed though- or a modern B2B player like KPB but with more talent.

--------B2B------Aquilani--------KPB
-------------------Cassano------------

Even better.

Why wouldn't Prince succeed as a DM? Has all the qualities to do so IMO

He'd be competent but don't you think his attacking qualities would be wasted a bit?

Prince isnt a great long range passer and he's a bit brash in his tackling..

He's a more gattuso type player hence CM would be a better position imo..

boateng isnt a very good tackler,i wouldnt want him in dm,specially when we have MVB .He has all the qualities of a cm not a cam.Hes not a good passer and not a good dribbler,id love him as b2b midfielder.

I hope we get Montolivo instead of Aquilani, both clubs are asking for 10 mil, it would be stupid to go for aqua, Monty is much better and a fantastic buy for 10 mil

Better yet:Ganso

Aquilani is a reject from liverpool and juve.....Hell,Juve got Pirlo to replace him

im all for montolivo,1 year younger, not injury prone, already has the mentality to be a captain, more consistent etc...

@ Ganso - why are you so sure this Mr. X is a trequartista? Allegri and Galliani are known to be looking for a mezz'ala.

Montolivo could play in that position, though I think he would be better suited to a sort of 'free' deep lying playmaker role. Perhaps he could slot in at RCM.

I agree wholeheartedly here. Monty is better than aquilani in every way. Our lineup in 2012:

--------------------------------------Abbiati
---------------Abate-----------Mexes-----------Silva-----------Taiwo

--------------------------------------MvB
-------------------------------Montilivo----------KPB

---------------------------------------Ganso
---------------------------------Pato----------Ibra

Boateng and MVB already have a guaranteed place on the 3 man mid.one of montolivo and aquilani will probably arrive, and one of them will also have a place in the mid (mezalla).

That makes a full 3 man mid.

Considering they will not be our mr x(hopefully, because that would make of b+g super trolls),the champion will be a CAM,a place with no cemented place on our current squad.

What I like from KPB when he was deployed in AM/CM position is that his run to the box and how he finishes when he got the chance.

After kaka left, I always left myself facepalming everytime I see Ambro/Gattuso/Flamini tries run to the box, only to put it (very)wide.

I think it's great news, shows that allegri agrees with us fans on the uselessness of boateng at AM. It's always good when the fans and manager think alike

Yea that's what I meant, he won't help us go far on the champions league. I spoke to a friend who is a hertha Berlin fan and he told me that boateng was told he would never be good enough to play for Germany and hence chose Ghana.

Trust me, I doubt they really care what we think tactically the only one getting something out of this is the fans that may want this. I'm sure Allegri doesn't really pay attention to our tactical threads in here, nor does he care if the fans agree with his tactics. All last year just about everyone was complaining, and look what he did. I'm waiting to see if he actually says it. Because I haven't seen Allegri say it so I'll wait til then and I'll wait til I see it executed in a game properly.
