Benzema looks like he's regaining his speed though.

Just a little more forward Keep him as permanent false 9 who doesn't go into the 9 part at all It may work out, who knows

The only problem I have with the line-up I'm seeing is Coentrao, I hope he could handle the pressure of handling barca's midfields and keeping tabs on messi.

I'm more concerned about his positioning in midfield He runs like a headless chicken and too much to the left whereas he is needed more in central areasH.A. wrote:The only problem I have with the line-up I'm seeing is Coentrao, I hope he could handle the pressure of handling barca's midfields and keeping tabs on messi.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
Coentrao is the type of player that improves under pressure. He's perfect for barca.

What if Marcelo starts in that position and Coentrao is used as the LB. Marcelo is a better midfielder plus the two could switch positions seamlessly if needed.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
Marcelo in the midfield? A big no no for me. Coentrao being a more versatile beast isnt a myth, he learns extremely fast and has a lot of discipline and a great work rate. I would trust him a lot more than Marcelo, whom i never liked playing in the midfield.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
I know he's versatile, I just think he needs more time playing in the midfield to get used to it. As a left winger I think he's great. Playing against barca would show how he's progressed as a midfielder. He just needs to stick more to the middle than drifting to the left.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
Midfield is the toughest position to learn and to play...i'm not talking about forwards playing midfield (ozil) or defenders playing it (Pepe). We're talking all around mids like Xavi and Iniesta. Cesc is in the same mold.
What i don't like about our midfield is that Khedira is the only one that is complete to me. Xabi is not allowed to go box to box, like Busquets, so he's a defensive specialist in our scheme.
Sahin could definitely fit the mold. But Ceontrao cannot... he's just another specialist right now. More of a winger playing midfield than a true midfielder. It will take a while for him to get it mastered. The fullback role is a lot more straightforward.
Like I said earlier, we will lose the midfield battle to Barca. There's no question about that. But we really don't need to win it. We just have to get our possession up to around 40% and hold on until they wear out come the 65th minute. Once they get tired, we have the great depth to bring in attacking players and take advantage of the extra space.
It's going to be a tactical game for us because we are very badly outmanned in the mid.

We're talking one fluke win when Barca just stampeded people 99.99% of the time. Khedira, presumably Sahin and Alonso are good... but Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc are miles better. They just split our team in half by dominating us in the middle.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
what one fluke win?
3-1 was won with good tactics, if you are talking about that.
no team ever could possibly deal with barca's midfield to take control of the possesion but you can make it a useless midfield, and counter them. thats what we have to do we have to stop them from producing a flowing game and then trap them

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
we cant put our faith on the strategy of a single victory inter had against barca when they had ibrafail and messi was on the right.
It's a whole new ball game now. we dont even have the same kind of player Inter used to have.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
Even if you render there midfield useless they have this nasty habit of passing the ball back and forth from the defense to the midfield to waste time and just make the other team come forward to open space. That's why many said we parked the bus last year when all we did was close the passing lanes.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
strategy aside, only thing we need to do is keep barca busy in midfield, get the ball asap, pass it to Di Maria/CR7=goal

im looking at the inter vs barca match right now, it had a slow tempo to it, with inter being very relaxed.

Re: Challenge Farca in midfield!
First off, Barca is a better team than when they played Inter because Pep was just getting his team together that year and he's replaced some the players that didn't fit his style since. As Nick said, Barca had Keita playing because Iniesta was out, Ibra was horrific and Messi was on the right. Now, they have Messi as the false 9, Sanchez and Villa. Just better players for their system and a better tuned engine. Yaya wasn't even able to play although he was on the bench. No yaya and no iniesta and floppy Ibra is a lot to overcome on the road. It was one of those nights when all the stars aligned for Inter.
Today, Barca has none of those weaknesses. They will miss Puyol. But Abidal is more than capable to cover the role, Fontas is an option and Adriano is performant on the left. They have also added Sanchez on the attack and presumably Cesc.
We have to bridge the gap in the midfield. That's the only way to actually control the games better as opposed to hoping for luck. Right now, we are a couple of people short... Sahin needs to get into it and Coentra needs to learn. We still don't have the horses.
