Navas is perfectly fine and how's that Ukrainian kid we signed last summer?

Barely playing for Leganes. Actually, he is not playing at all, just 3 appearances. Maybe 4.

So you're telling me he fits our recent transfer philosophy?

Of course. I actually rather Lunin than Conetois tbh.

Re: meaningless la liga
I kind of understand the logic behind the decision to sign Courtois, considering his world cup hype and the rare opportunity to sign a "high profile player" for spare change, but I'm a bit surprised we didn't go after Kepa instead. We were linked to him, but the attention or hype surrounding our reported pursuit of his signature died down quite fast. I'm guessing he didn't want to join a cross town rival, which would be perfectly understandable. He's young, talented and would've been a nice addition to fill our minimum quota of Spanish players. Although, Chelsea look poor these days, I've been impressed by what I've seen from him.

Re: meaningless la liga
Zidane said "no" to signing Kepa midseason, and then he was in a position where he had no choice but to sign a new deal with a higher release clause, it's that simple. after that, we were never going to pay 80 millions for him.
Objectively speaking, Courtois has been a poor performer this season, and i definitely hear the concerns about him not being a good athlete, it's almost as if his big frame is working against him whereas it was his biggest asset as a young keeper.

I do remember reading that Zidane blocked the transfer, but I figured it was just a rumor.
Yeah, Courtois was a fantastic hypejob, Nick. Excellent work, as usual

Re: meaningless la liga
Zidane blocking the Kepa deal was very legit, i think it was a difficult situation where Bilbao would not have allowed Kepa to stay until the summer, and Zidane was stedfast on his mission not to disturb his key players.

Re: meaningless la liga
its not that he blocked it per say; well, yeah he did lol. kepa was said to be set for the move and even undergoing a medical iirc. zidane was asked at a press conference, about him and he clearly stated, he has not and is not asking for a goalie. he also said (i can't remember if it was at the same presser), that he was sticking with keylor and casilla. this was in the middle of the season, so kepa and his group wisely got the message and resigned with athletic. cos if it had gone through he most likely won't get game time, the presser basically gave him the info he needed
btw not that i blame zidane for that, its ridiculous to sign a goalie in the middle of the season when you have two goalies who are fit and the coach hasn't even requested one. especially in that kind of position where you can only field one person. i get what the club was trying to do, but at the same time, the coach has a team to run

And it's not like we couldn't have gone after Allison if we wanted to. We just decided to go for Courtois.
Btw, it's not like Kepa has been that great or anything either. IMO, Navas is just as good if not better than all these.

Re: meaningless la liga
because courtois cost 35 mil and Roma was asking for 75 mil for Allison.
the math is very simple, specially after how good he looked playing the world cup. Sometimes you can make the "right" transfer decision, and it does not come out well, this is one of those cases to me.
the decision to sign Courtois was not wrong, given the opportunity, this is why imo, if we want to move on from him, we could and we should at very little loss.

I agree, but like I said, Kepa is young and Spanish. If we were going to get a younger keeper anyway, he would've ticked a lot of boxes. From what little I've seen of him, he looks about as good as you'd expect from someone his age. He definitely looks more reliable than Courtois, and 80 million doesn't sound unreasonable for a young, Spanish goalkeeper with a lot of talent. It's not like they grow on trees. Were we ever rumored to be after Allison?

Re: meaningless la liga
in fairness to courtois, this is his first season in an absolute shambolic real madrid side. for the most part goalies are only as good as their defense or defensive structure, except say someone like casillas, who as much as people tried to poopoo on his career and abilities, all the goalies people hyped above him in the last few years (except maybe buffon), have all had shorter peak careers. and iker was a star even when his defense constantly betrayed him
but i digress, maybe courtois might show his worth if and hopefully when, we become more stellar defensively. i've never been a fan of his, i'm not a fan of any chelsea player (i did like willian's football at one point), but with a somewhat thin budget and huge need for revamping this team, we cannot afford to spend more moneys on another top goalie. such moneys can be spent elsewhere

Re: meaningless la liga
Most of Conetois' errors are self inflicted though. Seriously, I did not rate him at all in the PL and now that he is here, stinking up the place, I actually starting to hate him on a Bale level of hate.
He isn't, however, our main reason for having a shit season. He is just part and parcel.

I really don't think goalkeeping is our problem. We have much bigger ones. Once the keeping actually becomes a problem, I'l take it as a good sign lol.

Re: meaningless la liga
Or his injury coinciding with David Neres showing what he has on the CL stage.
That's who he was competing with. Can't really blame Tite on that. Vinicius is too much of a question mark right now. He will have lots of time to prove himself in the future.

That makes me slightly frustrated. From what I can tell, Allison looks quite exceptional in every facet of his game. Liverpool really struck gold with him. Surely, he's the best goalkeeper in the world, right now? I can't even think of a single weakness he has. Then again, I don't watch Liverpool very often. Never thought I'd see the day when we get outbid by Liverpool for a player. I assume it had to do with level of interest, rather than financial muscle.

Or him coming back from a lengthy injury and being 18. He isn't Ronaldo or Dinho level of talent so it won't be that huge of a miss. In any case, he'll have quite a number of Copa America's to play in so it's fine.

Re: meaningless la liga
Thought I read somewhere on here that Vinicius doesn't pass the ball to Benzema, or something along those lines. Was it Chad? I looked up the stats, and most of Vinicius' assists have been to Benzema. Apart from dribbling, that's the area he's been the most productive in, largely thanks to Benzema's clinicality in the second half of the season.

Let me put this in the nicest way possible. I appreciate you a lot Thimmy, I like your posts and we rarely ever disagree on things. But if you ever waste your time again replying to Chad, I'll murder you in your sleep.

Re: meaningless la liga
To be fair, I wasn't quite certain if it was Chad. It puzzled me a bit, because although he's a flashy, individual brilliance type of player, Vinicius hasn't really struck me as selfish in the final third
