He only coached youth teams so far, a risky appointment but at the end of the day any appointment is a risky one. Always a gamble.

Re: Julen Lopetegui to Real Madrid
Had to happen, the downfall of Real after such high? Seriously though, no idea how he would do...
What does everyone think of the timing of the annoucement though? Dont think it ideal as it may affect Spain players minds a bit?

Van Persie and Blind did fine at the last World Cup despite LvG being confirmed to ManU so I don't think so

I also would imagine players like Isco and Asensio etc. Would play even harder to prove themselves. Every single performance counts. Can hardly be a bad thing.

As evidenced by Zidane this team coaches itself. Only needs a babysitter.
Think they could appoint Hodgson and do well.

Re: Julen Lopetegui to Real Madrid
Sevilla batter Madrid regardless of who the coach is at home.
This was unforeseen. Eusebio Di Francesco was the favourite along with Bordalas (Getafe) and Rubi (Espanyol). There was nothing about Lopetegui afaik.
He'll do well, I think. He's going to have great forwards to work with at Sevilla with Ben Yedder, Munir and Dabbur coming in from RB Salzburg and Banega, Vazquez and Sarabia have the technical quality in midfield. The defence is already shit so he can't ruin that.

Re: Julen Lopetegui to Real Madrid
Pellegrini had a fine career, so yeah in that regard Lopetegui will be fine too. Why are people so concerned about Lopetegui?
I think it is probably a good appointment, I am not familiar with the other names Sevilla could have gotten but it appears to be a good fit on the face of things.

Pellegrini had a good track record pre Real. Lopetegui is one of the biggest frauds I've ever seen. He got sacked at Porto Riding off his reputation with Spain U21.

Re: Julen Lopetegui to Real Madrid
Lopetegui is really not a fraud, that's ridiculous. He's just not Pep, and people tend to think in black/white terms of either being Pep or big Sam.
Imagine if people cared as much about someone like Pablo Machin who is about the same level.
Managers are allowed to have bad stints. Look at Mourinho, Jardim, Spalletti. Jurgen Klopp ffs was sh*t almost all season in his final Dortmund season.

Re: Julen Lopetegui to Real Madrid
I don't think he ever has, really. From the look of it, his time as Spain coach seems the best, no?
But he didn't do anything of note there either, except spend the preparation time for the WC negotiating with his new club lol.
Still young of course.
Pellegrini comparison is nonsensical, and generally Pellegrini deserves more respect than he gets.
He's got a good record post Madrid, too.
Fantastic job at Malaga, creating the myth that is Isco as well as mounting a meaningful challenge to prime Kloppmund in CL quarters 2013.
Good spell at City too, winning the Premier League, and noone else has taken City as far in the CL as him, to the semis.

Please, he has never done a good job at a club and had this inexplicable ability of failing upwards like Hollywood screenwriters.
Where did he have a good stint? Spain? Doing well in the qualifiers is not that great of an achievement.

I’ve been wondering about that, as well. Never had a strong opinion about him, myself.
