Re: Should we sell Benzema?
Didnt I just explain why La Liga and normal teams in general were much better back in the day?
Higuain would have scored more than anyone as well, his goal per minute was on track.
Only clueless people will compare football statistics in two different eras. I mean really? Why don't we declare Ozil better than zidane then.... The latter has much better assist numbers than Zidane. Also has better final ball than zidane ...I mean really big..lol....oh well.
Yeah you got the message.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
Statistics just for autistic nitpicking.
What matters for me ultimately is the big games and Benz is the best of the BBC in consistency in big games. Be it a goal or assist, Benz for better or worse decides whether we win or lose come the likes of barca or bayern.
In any case still concerned about his court case. How is it not resolved yet? That will decide his future here i think.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
Ozil and Zidane played different positions to start... one was a CM while the other is a CAM. Second, You had Figo, Bekham, Raul and Gutti along with Zidane all being creators whereas Ozil and Di Maria (to a lesser extent Benzema) were the two designated ones in the later team. So assists would naturally get concentrated with Ozil due to positioning and setup while Zidane was more about making sure the ball kept moving.
Now, scoring has gone up by about 15 to 20 per season for Madrid. But, our top scorer has eaten all that up. Whereas Sanchez would get 30-40 goals all comps in his prime... CR was getting 50-70 and he'll still get close to 50 this season (42 right now). So although there's more food on table for a goalscorer, one player is hoarding it all so there is no extra for anyone else.
Excuses, excuses, excuses... or i should say bullcrap... but that's ok Adit.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
zidane wasn't tasked with doing any defensive duties at madrid, so wasn't a cm...agree about many creative players unnecessarily clustered in that side. agree about adit's point with respect to star concentration; madrid always had star players, but there was also stellar talent in and around many clubs in the league, unlike now.
its not like u had madrid barcelona and a bunch of scrubs or nearly-men; anyone could go at the big sides, hell mallorca, osasuna, and depor were some of our boogey teams, even before galacticos crashed. agree about stats not creating a clear picture across eras, even just ten years ago. disagree on trying to downplay benzema's role in this era. i'm not his biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination, but as far as strikers in this era, he's been largely consistent, he can blow hot and cold at times, but it is what it is......
now if we're talking trophies and our team's position in this era, that's a problem associated with the whole team, (players, trainers) as well as the club (president, administration).
once again, as far as sales go, when one asks should we sell such and such, we have to wait and see who we are selling said player for, OR what formation we are going to use that will see said player replaced....that way we can have well thought out arguments on player 1 vs player 2, or if player 1 can fit in new system being adopted in comparison to player 2....and not random arguments plucked from the sky like "who's better between benzema and suker" or "benzema is the best/worst cf to have played for madrid in the last 50 years"

Benz is not going to euros this summer...
How badly will this affect his morale?

It's actually good for him, means no injury and he'll be fresh for the start of the season.

Don't think the non-team NT selection is gonna have that much of an adverse effect on him. All it does is give Sports a ready made excuse if France's forward line fail to deliver (:

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
NIck has pretty well covered this subject in the french NT thread.
What changes Flo will make this summer is anyone's quess at this point, particularly after this latest Barca downfall and Madrid (both of them) performamces in past couple of weeks.
If Flo thinks the ban will be upheld, there will be major changes and I would assume Benz may be part of that.
However, if he is confident in appeals (it no doubt will go to CAS, the Fifa court means little at this point), then hopefully the only changes will be the necessary ones:
A backup left lateral
A backup CF
Dealing with balance and midfield issues.
DEaling with use (or not) of AMs.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
Barça downfall? Dude, they're winning the double this year. And we will most likely end up trophyless.
If anything, it's us who have some work to do this year to prevent having two consecutive trophyless seasons, which, if god forbid happens, would mean our downfall in every sense of the word.

You beat me to it this contract just epitomises his status in this team. Heard it was life time. Cant get better than that tbh

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
I was going to mention it but considering court case not settled, figured to wait first. Club may have change of tune if variable presents itself.
Re: Should we sell Benzema?
I wouldn't read a whole lot into it... the best time to sell a player is when you make him sign a new contract. Maximizes their value as they are under control for the longest possible time. Doesn't mean he will or should get sold. But that's how it usually happens.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
yeah right who is last player the club extended before selling them? a lot of the recent departures have been for money or playing time, only his court case is worth anything in stopping him from continuing at the club, but keep the hate alive, cause a pleb like Aubameyang sure ain't gonna be the one .

I can name 100 guys... but one that is a propos: Bale. Signed a 5-year extension in May of 2013 for 150k pounds a week and then got sold later that summer to Madrid.

Sigh, I really try to avoid interacting with Chad but I'm pretty sure he meant who is the last player Real Madrid extended his contract before selling him.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
Our sales are haphazard... there's no pattern to them under Flo. But recently, we've pretty much stuck with the main core other than those who have asked to leave. I don't think we were planning on selling Ozil or Di Maria. They forced their own departure.
My only point is that, if Flo wants to shake up the house, signing an extension means very little. He'll do it anyhow.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
At this point, I believe Benz (and Ronaldo) are safe, staying with team and that addressing the weaknesses (midfield balance, backup LB and CF) being the focus UNLESS Flo believes his appeals won't work and ban is coming into effect. In that case, it will be a major shakeup and could very well include Benz.

Are you sure it's just Semi Finals?
Last year quarter final against Atletico, Semi against Juve.
This year group PSG ,R 16 Roma ,Quarter Wolfsburg first leg, Semi City.... Non existent in CL. Wow.
This is why it's important to bring a CF. One that can give real competition.
Re: Should we sell Benzema?
He's always injured because we've always had Di Maria, Bale or Ronaldo injured during the same period too and we need to risk one of them since we can't play without 2 of our starting forwards... and we always see Benz as the better risk and he ends up aggravating it.
It was Di Maria and Ronaldo 3 years ago
It was Bale last year
It's Ronaldo this year
We didn't trust Morata first, then Jese got injured last year and now we have Jese. But we're not going to trust him... Ronaldo will play CF and Vasquez will go wide.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
sports it's ben repetitive for him over the past 6 years we played in semis, just pointing that out. Signing a second CF is not even an option at this point.

Re: Should we sell Benzema?
CL semis being at the end of the season during which he has no backup to rotate with so no real rest, this is the time at which anyone in the same situation is bound to be injured from overuse.
Also, he's only really been injured this season. In previous seasons, it was once or twice in the entire season, which is not unreasonable given his situation (noone to rotate).
