Cagliari vs AC Milan: Return to Zemanlandia Empty Cagliari vs AC Milan: Return to Zemanlandia

Post by dostoevsky Wed Oct 29, 2014 12:01 am

Could there be a less predictable team than one coached by Zdenak Zeman? A team dedicated to attacking football that has tended this season to lead Cagliari to a diet of low scoring defeats and high scoring victories. Despite their low place on the table, their demolition of Inter is warning enough that concentration and discipline will be necessary to succeed. Our players have already spoken of the need to remain organised, reduce space and take advantage of the counter attack against Cagliari, a sensible but energy intensive strategy. On this note, having played on the weekend, Inzaghi is expected to rotate the side, mentioning "at least three changes," though I would not be surprised by more. Diego Lopez, Torres, one of Rami and Bonera as well as one of Van Ginkel and Bonaventura may well be introduced to the starting line up on the basis of recent speculation and Inzaghi's recent press conference.

This is a game we must win in order to maintain our positive momentum and stay ahead of Napoli and Inter, whilst keeping Lazio in check. Despite Cagliari's aggressive style and capacity to score quickly, we have seen how many sides have frustrated their efforts this season and we must emulate such efforts. We have seen at times this season evidence of our ability to move the ball vertically swiftly and effectively on the counter and we must take advantage of the space Cagliari leave to hurt them on the transition rather than slowing down the play as has happened on occasion this season.

Cagliari Squad: Colombi, Cragno, Avelar, Balzano, Benedetti, Capuano, Ceppitelli, Murru, Pisano, Rossettini, Capello, Conti, Crisetig, Dessena, Donsah, Ekdal, Joao Pedro, Caio Rangel, Cossu, Ibarbo, Longo, Farias, Sau.

AC Milan Squad: Abbiati, Agazzi, Diego Lopez, Abate, Albertazzi, Alex, Bonera, De Sciglio, Rami, Zapata, Essien, De Jong, Muntari, Poli, Saponara, Van Ginkel, Bonaventura, El Shaarawy, Honda, Menez, Niang, Pazzini, Torres.

Don't worry, the team will be fired up after Zeman claimed we had only really won about 7 scudetti.

I guess we have Torres to exploit their lack of defence.

Probably starting eleven being spoken of by the media:

Diego Lopez; Abate, Alex, Rami, De Sciglio; Bonaventura, De Jong, Muntari; Honda, Torres, El Shaarawy

Confirmation of Berlusconi''s meddlings:

Filippo Inzaghi says AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi is happy with how the team have started 2014-15.

The Rossoneri chief has been quick to pull the trigger on coaches in the last 12 months - first firing Massimiliano Allegri from the post in January then dismissing his replacement Clarence Seedorf at the end of 2013-14.

Inzaghi's men have started relatively well, however, by winning four of their first eight Serie A matches to be situated one point off third place and, heading into Wednesday's clash with Cagliari, the current San Siro incumbent says his boss is delighted with Milan's performances this season.

"I spoke to Berlusconi earlier on the phone," Inzaghi told reporters. "We always talk and there are always discussions between us two.

"He tells us about what he wants and puts across his views. He is happy with me and with the team. He always gives us lots of advice that proves to be right.

"I know he is happy about our attacking style of football. He prefers a centre-forward in the box, but we have showed that we can also play in another way - it went well against Lazio and Parma, but not as well against Fiorentina.

"I know what Berlusconi’s thoughts are, but tomorrow it’s not to be taken for granted that we are going to play with just one centre-forward.

"For instance, if we change system, Fernando Torres and Jeremy Menez have shown that they can play together."

Anyways, I think it'll be interesting to see them play together, though our midfield's weaknesses might be further exposed.

Bonventura-De Jong-Poli in midfield?

I can see us edging this, 2-1 or 3-2 seems likely.

Excellent response by Allegri for that Ibarbo blip in which our defence unsurprisingly left miles of space, Abbiati nowhere to be seen for the Sau cross.

The goal itself galvanized our whole squad but must not rest us for a 2nd half in which is bound to be difficult given the problems Cagliari are giving us.

Muntari is a walking disaster as already on a yellow is he is committing challenges to which he has been lucky not to get sent off. Poli must come on for him. Torres is holding and anchoring the play well yet must release the ball quicker to feed our wider players.

lm laughing at our players... the midfield and forwards are like u know what im just going to play for myself...

that kind of attitude and intend will take this team to nowhere.

only cagliari showed full intent of brilliant control, vision, build up play and team work... from defense to attack..

milan came here to settle for result. only cagliari showed they wanted to win.

the lack of quality in this team is appaling.

Awful performance. Quite frankly our worst game this season, in my opinion.

It was not just Zeman's relentless Cagliari (led by Capitano Conti well majority of the match) yet most of the time we just looked flat and devoid of any creativity.

Right as Cagliari continued to press us we insisted on multiple back passes in building from the back, to which were not linked back into the desired zones considering we have no played to link one another unless it was a midfielder to be used as a wall to prevent a turnover.

I've favoured the 4-3-3 of Pippo the most this season yet it may be time to experiment within a formation to which allows a link to the CF if not two CFs to combine with each other so that Torres does not have to spend time continually holding the ball.

Torres had his worst performance today as within other matches he is contributing as despite him holding the play well and recovering the ball excellently multiple times, you can see how frustrated he was from the lack of midfield service. The midfield composed of Allegri-de Jong-Muntari failed to create today as Allegri despite his excellent poise on the ball, plays much too much like an AM and does not position himself as needed within a 3 man midfield. de Jong was excellent in continually winning balls while Muntari was just god awful as playing with him is like playing with 10 men. Not only does he offer 0 in attack, he is a red card disaster waiting to happen.

Our wide attack composed of El Shaarawy and Honda looked equally frustrated as El Shaarawy did well with his one-touches and brought the ball well forward, even getting unlucky with a last ditch tackle by Ekdal yet needs to find more space within the box. Honda was completely anonymous as its clear that his lack of pace to track back and out wide his general play suffers.

Most of all the attitude of the team was disappointing as by the 75+ the team seemed to have wanted to just end the game. Fatigue may be a factor yet the lack of creativity in display was very concerning.

A 1-1 which was in stark contrast to our previous game in which many positives were seen yet none here at the moment.

Sunday night vs Palermo I see no excuses but not to win. Hope to see an improvement there.

Edit: Oh yes and guess what; we are in 3rd place despite the loss of 2 points Chaka

That was a disgrace of a team. Apart from that great goal by Bonaventura, that challenge by Rami and that lucky save from Abbiati they played so horrible that that is hard to explain. They looked like bunch of amateurs who played the game for the first time. So many wrong passes, so many balls from defenders to Torres who was always surrounded by 2 or 3 players. And that defense OMG. 1 or 2 Cagliari players against 6 or 7 Milan players all the time and we are lucky that they scored only once. I lost too many nerves watching this game and my head is spinning around. I am fan of the club over 25 years and i never saw anything like this. Total disgrace and catastrophe.
