When talking about all-time greats, at least on GL, the general's name is barely mentioned.

He has won 9 league titles in his managerial career (7 Bundesligas)
2 CLs with 2 different clubs , and 3 Pokals and a few more cups as well.

9 league titles + 2CLs must make you among all time greats automatically anyways.

He stopped going and attempting for that 3rd CL in 2004, who knows if he had kept his club managerial career, he would have achieved it or not.

He then took over a Switzerland side whose golden generation was aging after a disappointing Euro 2008 home campaign , but with a lot of young but raw talents coming through. They were extremely solid in WC, and unlucky to be eliminated due to missing several chances vs. Honduras.

Euro 2012 came a bit too soon for their now young team (Same case for Belgium), but over the last 2 years he's moulded them into a fantastic team that is very hard to play against. They are rock solid defensively (the collapse vs. Iceland apart), and are very good in front of opposition net.

Core players of Bengalio, Schar, Lichsteiner, Inler, Behrami, Xhaka, Shaqiri and Stroller is very good, and they have been nearly flawless since their disappointing Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

Now they will be seeded for the WC and a team to watch out for IMO. It's very hard to score against them, and after 5 years in charge, Hitzfeld team could surprise a lot of haters next summer.

The only GOAT to beat Spain in Brazil, and I am sure VDB threw a party after Switzerland were seeded and assured that Spain won't have them in their group again. Hope Hitzfeld and his fantastic Switzerland side get a lot more respect than the total abuse they are receiving at the moment for people who are stuck in the past.

He said he'll quit coaching after the WC.

I so wish we'd throw everything in charm and money we have at him to get him to be Löw's replacement. He's the Germany manager I've always wanted.

Edit: I also epically love the Nati as well, hope Switzerland goes deep. Can't really see it, though, TBH.
