I imagine that had to do more with the fact Neymar plays at the same position as CR does. Now, that would have been 60/80 mil down the drain, this 30/40 were actually invested in a position which we needed to strengthen.

Anyway, as I said in another thread, are people still really shocked that we always overpay for our transfers? Personally I couldn't care less, we can afford it, it stings much more when we sell our players for ridiculously low prices - although we've been improving.

thats his real valuations but due to various reasons we had to pay his buyout plus alittle more

He's 23, a needed player and there is no one else available who can play his role as well.

Given our state of midfield currently no body can fault Perez for triggering his release clause..We needed a midfielder desperately and there is very few midfielders out there who can pass and defend at the same time.Another option was De Rossi but he is 30 and not worth paying 30 mill (Romas asking price) for a 30 year old who has never played out side of Serie A.

Varane was a risk and a once in a blue moon scenario. He was getting some playing time his first season but not much. Wasn't ahead of albiol but that actually changed the following season thanks to his performances in CL due to the Ramos bust up and injuries/suspensions to our first choice CB. Hadn't things changed he may have left.

I'm glad it payed off though.
