Conte can ‘beat’ me, says Capello
Fabio Capello believes the present Juventus side can total more points than his 2005-06 team, but underlined that it was harder back then.
Capello’s champions in 2006 totalled a club record 91 points before being stripped of the Scudetto and demoted to Serie B as part of the Calciopoli probe.
If Antonio Conte’s champions win their last two games then they will end the campaign at the top of the table with 92 points.
“Conte’s Juve can beat the record of my Juve,” the Russian national boss told Sky Sport 24. “They can certainly do that – they have no rivals in this League.
“As I’ve said before, this is not the Serie A of the past. Great players once came to Italy, now they go elsewhere.
“Look how many places Italy has lost in the rankings against the likes of German, English and Spanish clubs.”
Capello was a top club tactician after success with Milan, Roma, Juventus and Real Madrid. He’s since bossed the English national side and is now in Russia.
“I’m not missing the Italian national job,” he underlined. “I’ve never had the desire to become the CT. I like to go places, I like different challenges.”
The veteran was also asked for his opinion on Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to step down as Manchester United boss.
“I met him a few months ago and he said he would continue so I was surprised with the news.
“I spoke to him yesterday and he said there was too much stress, that it was hard work to always win and that he wanted to go around the world with his wife.”
