Alessio: 'It's all Conte's doing'
Juventus assistant manager Angelo Alessio was back for the victory over Napoli, but gives all the credit to Antonio Conte.
“Clearly Antonio is the Coach in every sense,” he said after a 2-0 win. Alessio made his comeback on the touchline after his ban in the betting scandal was cut on appeal.
“We have alternated in this great staff, but the Coach remains paramount. I pointed towards the box because it was important to feel united at that moment.
“So far we have won seven games and drawn one, have the best attack and now the best defence, so the statistics are clear. We were even without Gigi Buffon and Mirko Vucinic, but those who played gave their all. We think and of course hope that Buffon and Vucinic will be fit for the Champions League.”
“We knew Napoli were dangerous on the counter-attack and so we prepared for that, ensuring we were not caught out.”
The goals came from two substitutes, as Martin Caceres nodded in a corner and moments later Paul Pogba scored with a fine volley.
“The deadlock was broken on a set play and Caceres went up to jump, meaning there were six in the box and Martin found that gap. Paul then scored a wonderful goal.
“Clearly these substitutions are down to the training sessions we see throughout the week. Pogba was in great shape and we know he can become a fantastic player. We took a risk, but to win you have to dare.”
Alessio was banned for the same reason as Conte, namely that a former Siena player claimed they knew about a potential fix and failed to alert the authorities.
“The ban is a scar that will never go away, but I look forward with confidence and no rancour. Nobody ever interrogated me, nor was I investigated officially by the police.
“I thank President Andrea Agnelli and the club for standing by me during these months. It’s a shame Antonio still has to sit out this suspension, but we have to continue.”
