Calm down shameless. I don't rate Tito at all. All he's doing is carrying on what Pep did.

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
Well actually, he is doing subtle things different to Pep.
Obviously he isnt going to make wholesale changes, that would be the first sign of a bad coach. Changing what doesnt need changing.
But the insistence of keeping 3 forwards on the pitch at all times refreshing. Iniesta has not played a single minute on the flank and I dont think he will again barring injuries to like 5 different players at the same time.
He also has had Messi play as a midfielder with 3 other forwards on the pitch.
He also seems to have concluded Alexis can play as a 9 in some situations and I believe we will see more of that if the situation calls for it.

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
Tito hasn't convinced me...
He has one of the best team around which play maybe the best style of football at his disposal...
All he has to do is keep key players fit because matchdays he can field almost any starting 11 & get a result not to mention, Messi is there to keep bailing him out...
Barca had to make just one signing this season, A good CB & he fail with that while still using Mascherano as CB which cost them the Super Cup...
idk, for me,Song was irrelevant because Barca isn't really short of depth in midfield & now Thiago is gonna get less playing time & may probably leave soon because of this...

Tactically speaking its always easier to destroy than to build. So the tactic that Emery used was easier than Barcas to come up with/execute and lets not forget that Spartak got a little bit lucky with an own goal. That goal was hardly because of a tactical masterplan..

You surely cant take him seriously?
He wouldnt be able to name 2 things about Spartak that they did tactically outside parking the bus.

Thought Pep would have the record of 'best start to the season' out of all the records he broke.
Surprisingly he didn't.

Pep lost his first Laliga game, and the press were asking for his head
He also lost his 2nd CL game, 1-0 to Wisla Kraków, in the qualifying rounds of he CL.

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
Best ever record? The truth is apart from the Madrid match, which was in Camp Nou as well, Barça have yet to play a decent team.
A lot of tough matches are still left to be played. Málaga (H/A), Atlético Madrid (H/A), Atheltic Bilbao (A), Betis (A) and Espanyol (A) Valencia (A) Madrid (A). A total of 9 matches and 27 points at stake.
And now the 8 point lead over Madrid doesn't seem so significant. I'm convinced Barcelona fans may regret not winning their home clásico game in the end.

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
So what Madrid has to play those games? Doesn't make Pito's record any better.
Barcelona haven't won against Betis in two years away from home. San Mamés has always been a difficult ground for Barcelona. Derbi Barceloní is still a tough one regardless of Espanyol's form. Last year Barcelona had a lot of trouble in Calderón and had it not been for Messi's cheeky free-kick they would have gone home with a draw at best, because Atlético were better on the night and they have improved since then. Málaga have been good this season and they can cause upset to the leaders too.

But ask yourself how does that take away from Tito's record after 10 games
Since he cannot control who he plays against in the schedule and when, it doesn't matter if he had a favourable schedule or not because it's not in his control
9 wins and 1 draw from 10 is ridiculous

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
@danyjr, calling him Pito gives a clear message about your prejudiced opinion about him, and looks like you are not ready to give him a chance. Yes, we did not face some of our difficult opponents, but it was not a stroll in the park as well considering our defense is constantly injured (last one being Adriano now). Considering these difficulties i think Tito showed he is rather good. Also, his mid game changes after we were down in several occasions (again due to makeshift defense) were on the spot. So he clearly knows what he is doing.

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
Tito did not play any decent team?? since when Valencia does not fall into that category?? And the away games?? I think its him who changed our practice of loosing points away from home. And also what about games after Fifa break.
compare those situations with last season, just because he won those they are now easy games...

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
It's hard to say how good is Vilanova, because it's more likely that the players carry the coach than the other way around as is usually the case for Barcelona.
Having said that, Barcelona have been good since the start of the season, so he deserves some credit.

at least he doesn't include him in every game like Pep did.
Messi was out of the copa game and one could argue he definitely wanted to play yesterday to score for his kid

Re: How highly do you rate Tito Vilanova?
I think people in this thread are forgetting it goes both ways. Everyone seems to want to give Pep all the credit when Tito was his right hand man and he surely had a lot of influence in the teams that won so many titles.
I mean all you had to do is watch the games and see how much back and fourth there was between Pep and Tito during the games.
A lot of people in this thread keep saying he is just using the same tactics as Pep well those were Pep and Tito's tactics and no one will really ever know how much Tito helped with the tactics but IMO he helped a lot.
Tito seems to be a good coach, I like his rotation of the team and certain players and he is getting through an injury crisis that no other manager I can remember has faced in his first year in charge at a massive club.
He not only held the team together he set a early season record with points won.
I agree there is still a wait and see approach but those who critisize the man or down play what he has done so far are just flat out wrong. So far he has almost been flawless.
Oh and also, since when has playing Real Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia in your first ten league games as a manager an "easy" schedule and "having not played anyone yet"? That's a pretty dumb statement.
And last but not least, this whole Barca could win without a coach nonsense is just that, nonsense. This comment is the reason I think a lot of posters on this site are between the ages of 10-15 years old.
Let us not forget in Frank's last year in charge we finished third in La Liga and won nothing. In the very next year Pep's first, we won 6 trophies and set all kinds of records. Have you people forgotten this already?
