sportsczy wrote:Ok. I know i'm probably getting overexcited here... but i never expected a 18-year old kid with less than one year's professional experience (that's right. He's only played pro ball since November of 2010) to dominate our defense. I mean, he's CLEARLY our best defensive player out there.
Calm, tall, rangy, fast, great feet, great strategic sense... just has it all. He is outclassing everyone except maybe Pepe. But he's already a much headier and strategically aware player than Pepe.
Very, very impressive.
i agree. the kid has a wealth of talent. that tackle he made just shows how mature he is for his age.
we need to do everything we can to keep this kid playing for madrid. true wonderkid- screw neymar.

Seems like Varane is doing really well. Hope he can keep it up, maybe he will even be able to become first choice backup this season.

Apparently Thuram and Blanc went back in time using a time machine, then they fused together, after the fused product traveled back into the future and hence Varane.

Easy there tiger... he is nowhere in the league of either of those two. Not even a little bit... yet. He could get there some day perhaps.

I know , what I meant was Varane is a cross between them when they were in their youth not in their prime.

I remember I was the only here who said he was good enough to stay on the team and compete for a starting spot
It's good now people are starting to believe me

Re: Raphael Varane
Thuram didn't start full time for a team (Monaco) until he was 20.
Blanc is just an amazing story. He started out his career as a AM professionally at Montpelleir in D2. He got them to L1 and the decided to become a CB later. He scored 134 goals in 627 club games and 16 goals in 97 caps with France NT. He was a very, very unique CB... great defender but scored a ton of goals. Important ones too (see world cup 98).

I too had my doubts but as soon as I knew SAF wanted him I knew he was a gem even without seeing him play lol.

I rate L1 very, very highly obviously because i'm shamelessly biased. But i'm starting to see that L1 is actually better than La Liga in terms of all the teams.... just fierce competition. My mind just couldn't accept that a CB who's played 6 months of professional ball at Lens (relegated) could make a smooth transition to Real Madrid.
You have to admit Crimson... you heart may have rated Varane highly. But you couldn't possibly believe that he would start like this at Madrid. Talent is fine. But the mind needs to be strong.
Speaking of L1 by the way, Matuidi and Menez are done deals for PSG. They will be announced early this week. With the negotiation of Taarabt falling apart, watch Martin make the move too. Will be an interesting team.

Re: Raphael Varane
I am actually hoping that Varane plays more than Carvalho for the sake of his physique. Faster, stronger and better in the air than Riccy.

French defensive players are the bomb, some of the best defenders in the world have come out of Ligue 1
That being said I have been watching the lower leagues of France for a long time as I follow a team there and in doing so as a by product I have been watching Ligue 1 as well. What I saw in Varane in his short stint is better than what I have seen from almost any highly rated defender I have seen in France in the last few years and whats more impressive is that his performances were compared to Sakho who was playing with better support and has 4 years experience on him as well.
I was always confident he would succeed although adapting this quickly is even surprising to me.

Re: Raphael Varane
Loan him to Arsenal. You know how Wenger polishes French players. Varane+Benzema deal. Insert a buyback clause in Varane if he becomes good, and we keep Benz.
Win, win, win.
Win, win, win.
