Oh no please, i dont wanna see that guy here. When we tried to sign him he ignored us, now he has accomplished nothing staying with florentina, serves him right.

we need a RB anyway

If you want to convert a leftback to rightback then Vargas is a better candidate IMO. He is a lot like Maicon+ two footed Very Happy

As crazy as this may sound... why don't we try Di Maria at RB? He has the work rate and he would be just like Marcelo, but on the other side. I think it could really work well as he has the right skillset.

He's more of an attacking final third player imo.

The difference between a winger and corner defender is really not that much... it all comes down to work rate. A lot of wingers were former wing defender and vice versa.

There are two things about Di Maria that i do not like in terms of him as a wing midfielder: too much dribbling and bad passing. If he were to become a corner defender, these flaws could be masked a lot better.

We can't have two attacking fullbacks like Di Maria. It will never work.

Coentrao is pretty much as aggressive as Marcelo. And Di Maria was doing a lot of the defensive work to help out Marcelo in the Classicos.

It won't happen... but i think it would really work well.

^^Coentrao at RB is also super attacking.

@Learning out to defend, tackle and where to put yourself isnt that easy, some got it, some dont. I dont think Di Maria does, as opposed to Coentrao, who can virtually play everywhere Di Maria do and more.

Coentrao as experience play as a fullback though. Di Maria is too good at attacking to play him RB.

It's not like Alves, Roberto Carlos, Marcelo, etc. know how to position themselves or tackle when they started. In fact, they were horrific. But they picked it up. It's not that hard if your balance is good and your hips swivel quickly... great dribblers usually have those physical attributes.

I think the idea of having Coentrao here is not to go through that phase again. He is already a very good defender as fullback.

Can he be any worse than Marcelo is my point lol.

I'm just speculating here. Again, usually guys with speed and great dribbling can become very good corner defenders. In fact, winger and corner defenders are very, very close in terms of physical skillset requirements.

What about Di Maria's size? That puts him at a huge disadvantage when defending.

i highly doubt we would buy coentrao to be a RW, i highly doubt jose would rotate our LB often enough to accommodate both marcelo and coentrao, i highly doubt we would buy fabio for ~20-30m for him to sit on the bench, and i also highly doubt we would either bench marcelo or change his position again.

that being said madrid never ceases to amaze me in the summer months.

if he IS bought, he will be playing RB

He will play inverted RB, we arent spending 20+M on a player so he can rotate with two starters we have no problems with.

I might have believe you if we hadnt bought Callejon and Altintop, very unlikely.

i think as much as we have no problem with marcelo and di maria, we also have no problem with some our other starters: alonso, khedira, ozil
but we did bought sahin anyway to rotate with them, so buying coentrao to rotate with marcelo & di maria is just as makes sense as that imo
although we spent way less with buying sahin

Sahin is quite different, we can set up a 3 man midfield with Sahin, alonso, and khedira. There is a tactical need here to me. There will be games he will be ale to start with Alonso.

Sahin improves our quality down the middle. Coentrao doesnt improve our defense. Buying a proper CB for that kind of money would have been a Much better thing to do.

we might loan/sell garay to benfica and havent strengthen our defense yet.
lass and gago might be gone as well and no pure Dm when we really need it.
