VDS was more consistent and had less errors in throw out his career,hence placed above khan.Plus his career lasted alot longer.

Not true. He was a disaster at Juve, hence no top club wanted to buy him and he ended up at a newly promoted club like Fulham.

Many people are re-writing VDS's career because it had an amazing ending.

Van der sar was very good at Juventus.Only reason he got replaced is Buffon.Even if it is just two years,he has been absolutely consistent over the years and had a long career than most of the goal keeper would have dreamed of.

Actually, I *did* watch him play and that's why I rate him so highly. He was a true personality on the pitch. And he is the only GK to get the Golden Ball at a World Cup, IIRC. Too bad he messed up against Brazil, but that didn't keep the jury from giving him the award.

NO where near top 20 , was good in his prime amazing reflexes , but could never catch the ball. This does not reflect skill level, which is why many don't agree with some of the choices.

Don't get me wrong though Dida was a great shot stopper, but there's where it all ends sadly. He was great and then after his prime became horrible, then recovered a bit, and then had another relapse. I love him though even after all the stupids things his done, remember the Raul goal at the Bernabeu

Yeah he was great on brazilian standard but he did find a way to look like a idiot in number of matches he played.

Leonardo was clearly a lunatic to start Dida ahead of abbiati.

i think he declined gradually after 2006.

one and a half pages of posts and noone has asked who has issued this ranking and on what basis.

I would easily agree that Buffon and Casillas are the best porteros but by what criteria has this been determine and why over 25 years. If it's over the entire 25 years, Buffon is better than Casillas only for the reason he has been at the top longer than Casillas. And unfortunately there are others like Van der Sar who also would be ahead of Casillas diue to their longevity at the top. However if were comparing them at the peaks of their careers then Casillas win easily.
