@McLewis I'm curious, what's your current evaluation on Pallotta's time as a president?

I'm of the opinion that he's doing a great job. He's completely different from the magnates that invest on football clubs (we're starting to see them in Italy too). He's farsighted, he has an eye for the bigger picture and doesn't just seek instany gratification. He worked on improving the infrastructure, the brand, the fiancial stability, the future of the club. The new stadium is an emblem of this amongst the other things. The only thing that goes against the grain of his progressivism is Totti's renewal, but we all know his hands are tied there, Totti is Roma.
Yet I hear from Roma fans that he could be doing much more, that he's holding Roma back, that they want the Sensi back Laughing. What's your take on this?

I tend to agree with you on Uncle Jimmy myself. I follow a fair amount of American sports so I'm used to his approach though so not surprised he's doing fairly well.

For actual Italian Roma fans though....it's been a case of serious culture shock. They are really lukewarm towards him because he's not based in Rome and really only visits a handful of times a year. Romanisti are used to having their owners living in Italy so that's an issue with most fans, especially those in Rome. As for his decision-making, yes his business-first model has rubbed some the wrong way because there's a distinct feeling that he looks at this club like a business instead of a sports team and honestly that's what he's doing, which I think is core to his progress so far. The way Roma have reinvented itself off the pitch has been called derisively as "Brand Roma" by many anti-Pallotta supporters, which is rather harsh as I think we're doing things in the background that other clubs may not yet be hip to.

One thing that I love about Uncle Jimmy is that he appears to be a really authentic guy, very down-to-earth and quite affable. He isn't afraid to have a joke at his own expense (much like Totti of course), but he also speaks his mind and isn't afraid to go toe-to-toe with more established Serie A owners like Lotito.

As for a return to the Sensi.....that's hyperbolic at best and hysterical at worst. As much as many Romanisti don't like Pallotta or Brand Roma, I don't think there is any debating that we're significantly better off than under the Sensi family toward the end of their ownership, where we were broke ,owned by Italy's largest bank and scraping the bottom of the transfer barrel ever summer and winter. No one wants to go back to that again truly and if they say they do, I'm pretty sure they're lying.

So in summary, people are apprehensive of Uncle Jimmy because his tendency to treat Roma like a corporation really causes friction with those caught up in the nostalgia of how the club functioned during the height of the Sensi's power (late 90s, early 00s).

He's got us on the right track though he's going to need all of his guile and skill to get that stadium built. These politicians in Rome have not made it easy at all.

Roma reach Monchi agreement
By Football Italia staff

Sevilla Sporting Director Monchi will be the man to replace Walter Sabatini at Roma, and will take up the position in June.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, an agreement was reached between Roma executives and the Spaniard in a meeting in London.

The 48-year-old has been dubbed as a ‘transfer wizard’, with a reputation for buying little-known players and selling them on for huge profits.

During his 16 year tenure with Los Rojiblancos, the club have won five Europa League titles, one European Super Cup, two Copa del Rey trophies and a Spanish Super Cup.

Monchi – who used to play as a goalkeeper for the Seville-based club – announced that he would be leaving back in June.

At Roma he will link up with Diego Perotti and Federico Fazio, both of whom enjoyed previous spells with the La Liga outfit.

Feels weird to see Monchi leave La Liga let alone Sevilla. I've experienced him there ever since I can remember and for Roma to get him is quite exciting as I want to see how he will implement his Cadiz sala based philosophy into a club which runs on very different dynamics.

The truth is he has been wanting this for over three years to further challenge himself and nothing more challenging than a cauldron of fire in the form of Roma as he is known to speak bits and parts of Italiano so that should help him on his quest.

Huge huge coup for Roma but knowing Monchi he may be frustrated with the politics within the Capitale and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

He will for sure experience a lot of frustration in Italy. The positive things is that this Roma with Palotta is about as welcoming as it gets in terms of internal workings.

Last summer i was pleading numerous times against him in the Juve section. When he joined Inter i was jubilating cause i had a feeling this guy was a major flop in the making. Glad to see i was right after all What a Face

Talk about throwing 30 millions in the trash lol, Inter never learns from its mistakes.

The Monchi story seems pretty well founded. A couple of papers published it in Italy (like Gazzetta) and then a couple of Spanish (like AS) picked it up (citing the Italian ones).

I think we might have different definitions of "well founded", unless the other one of the 'couple of papers' was a far more trustworthy one than the Gazzetta

Both clubs have denied that everything is done. Monchi himself said that he wouldn't mind living in Rome or Paris a couple of weeks ago. It seems like there really is a story. Otherwise neither club would come out and say anything as there are plenty of other rumors and nothing ever gets addressed.

Well that and there's the fact that Monchi's still under contract with Sevilla until June.

I wouldn't expect this to be confirmed by either party until we get much closer to that time.

In other news:

Rincon set for Roma
By Football Italia staff

Roma have beaten Juventus and Inter to Genoa’s Tomas Rincon, according to reports.

The Venezuelan midfielder has been linked with all three clubs, and appears almost certain to leave the Grifone in the January transfer window.

Now La Repubblica is reporting that The Giallorossi have virtually sealed a deal to sign Rincon in January.

The 28-year-old will arrive on an expensive loan deal, with an obligation to buy depending on how many appearances he makes.

This way, the Lupi can spread the cost over two financial years and therefore reduce their Financial Fair Play total.
