Mostly he's a problem for us because of his role. He's supposed to be our main creative hub in midfield. Now if you look at his skillset - he's a good finisher but can neither dribble nor pass. You see the problem?

Thing is another decent club might actually find a good role for him.. but for us what he offers just can't cancel out the shortcomings. Even if he gets a better midfield partner we still effectively sacrifice one of the midfield positions by playing Klaassen there.

Indeed, the issue with Klaassen at Ajax is balance in the midfield. However, if you had a midfield of say:

Riedewald
Klaassen - Nouri/Ziyech

That would be fine because Klaassen does a lot of good work off the ball, and obviously his ability in the final third is really strong for a midfielder, but yeah for the last few years really there's not been a good balance in their midfield.

No. It's not fine. It just isn't. Because he's simply not good enough with the ball. Today was a perfect example of just that once again. He breaks up combination play, he slows the play down. We simply can't afford to have a midfielder who can't play with the ball at his feet and is only good for scoring when we only have 3 midfielders.
