Villarreal vs Liverpool

Although we are facing lot injuries to our key players, like Can, Henderson, Sakho(out) and Origi I am still very much upbeat for this fixture. I think this is Klopp effect. It will be interesting, in absence of all injured and missing players, how Klopp adjusts his tactics and gameplan for this 2 legged fixture.

I'd feel a lot better about this match if we had even one of Hendo or Can fit. You need a good midfield against Spanish teams and I can see ours struggle.

Yeah, I'm not worried about Allen, but he alone isn't enough. Lucas hasn't been playing much and Milner has shone in the attacking third, not so much in midfield.

I am more worried about the defense though ! Lovren and sakho were solid together and we still ended up conceding three goals against Dortmund. I dont think we will be able to outscore Villarreal like Dortmund. I hope Klopp plays a 3 man MF of Allen, Lucas and Milner.

And In case Lallana plays, he needs to finish the chances he gets on counter, otherwise all his amazing work and skill will be waste.

Firmino starting as striker and Sturridge on the bench is the only surprise in the XI, but it's a big surprise...

Like I said in the other topic it's not that big of a surprise when you look at it tactically. Firmino can run for days and presses all game. Villareal don't score a lot of goals and are disciplined defensively. Push a heavy pace for the first 60 minutes or so and then bring on Studge to run at a tired defence.

Seems like a good plan to me.

No surprise for me on the other hand rather shrewd move by Kloppo. As curtinho said Villareal don't score many gioals and are quite deciplined in defence hence its better for sturidge to be introduced say in last 20 mins or so for that late spark in end when Villareal defence is just tiring.

we have been good ! Offensively, we could have done much better but Villarreal seem really well organised, the only chance to score against them is on the break by getting behind their defense.

An OK half. We don't look like scoring, though. If only Joe had put his chance in the corner and not straight at the keeper.

If the game stays like this, I'd bring Benteke on. Almost all of our attacks are ending with a cross anyway, or just losing the ball.

Yeah, totally baffling. Klopp's worst game in charge, imo. This game was screaming either for Sturridge's skills to take on defenders or Benteke's aerial ability when all we did was cross the ball anyway. Or both of those. It's hugely disappointing that we didn't go for the away goal braver, now we're in a really difficult situation in a tie we should be winning.

Klopp is smart. When the return leg is home, the idea is not to lose the tie when you're away. He's had enough experience to know how it works.

With a brand new CB pairing, he wasn't going to take too many risks.

Apparently Emre is back in the squad, ahead of schedule. I'd take the risk and go ahead and start him. Also, Benteke needs to come on at half-time the latest if we need goals and Villarreal are parking the submarine. We need a target man in the box sooner than just the final 10 minutes.
