It seems weird to me, since all the reports seemed to suggest that the fee would be from 70-80 million give or take bonuses. But a jump up to 90 million at the last second doesn't seem right.

Nice Matin is the mouthpiece for AS Monaco Z... they don't BS.  It's the best regional paper by far (i live here and read it every day) and it's owned by Bernard Tapis.

As you can tell, they get all the scoops for Monaco.  They got the president to give them quotes in the article post James to Madrid becoming official.

When they say "according to Nice Matin" sources, they mean that Monaco told them.

They were quoting AS in those... only the info that says "according to Nice Matin sources" is internal.

The fee is irrelevant either way, I mean the jump between 80 to 90 isn't that large.

I'm not doubting that Nice Matin have a direct link (honestly this is the first time I hear of the name) but after thumping on their chests earlier this month that James was not for sale I'm not prepared to close my eyes and believe Monaco just yet.

Nice Matin is the largest newspaper in the Cote d'Azur by far...  and i mean by a huge margin.  Anything that has to do with anything, including sports, from Monaco through Cannes... they're the source.

Extremely reliable and a very serious newspaper.  I subscribe to them as i live here and read it every day.  It's just a good newspaper.  It doesn't focus on sports more than anything else.  It's like the LA Times or Washington Post of the region.

I don't disagree Gil... it's ludicrous.  James wasn't even as good as Hazard was in Ligue 1.  Not close actually. They're very similar players too.... so the comparison is very apt.  

But whatever.  Monaco didn't want to sell at all and Madrid had to make them an offer that they really couldn't refuse...  it was what it is.
