Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
Season 9 is pretty bad so far. Guess they realised it was time to end.

Season 9 gets better RG. As a whole it's better than both season 7 and 8.

also why does everyone seem to love himym? the 5 episodes i saw were the most unfunny pile of shit i've ever watched... at least the likes of bbt and 2.5 men have some toilet humor but himym is just completely bland, like they were writing some kind of entourage-style "dramedy" and added laugh tracks at random places... Seen 11 episodes of season 9. Had to skip half of them. The best ones were whenever they flashbacked to the time where Barney was single etc.
Season 7 and 1st half of season 8 were both much better IMO. For me it peaked when Barney proposed Robin. Although some episodes of the 2nd half of season 8 were still great

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
Friends drama and friends comedy over HIMYM. Seriously you cannot compare the genius of Friends with HIMYM. Plus only those who've seen both series in their entirety can make the comparison.
So don't even bring around your biased poverty opinions unless you've sat through 10 seasons of both.
And Seinfeld

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
I did sit through the combined 19 seasons of both. HIMYM drama is easily better than Friends drama. Was there anything in Friends that got you near teary like HIMYM did? Did it have any classic dramatic scenes like the 2 minute date, Ted and Barney's reconciliation, Barney's love of my life speech etc? I do remember some great moments but they were nowhere near the quantity or quality of HIMYM though. Overall I liked Friends better but certainly not so much that I declare it sacrilege when someone says HIMYM is the better show.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
Just finished HIMYM.
What the actual f? That was one of the most terrible endings I have ever seen in any TV Show. They absolutely ruined it. Whole season 9, the wedding, Robin-Barney thing, Robin-Ted thing. That was all just a giant waste of time. Nothing made sense. It was forced and they destroyed half the characters which they spent 8 years developing.
I have no idea how you guys managed to get emotional because I was too pissed off while watching the last two episodes. I don't like sitcoms. This is the 2nd ever sitcom I have ever gotten attached to and liked it so much but the ending was a betrayal to the 8 seasons.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
Yeah, I don't get this show either. Every now and then there's some new internet meme popping up about this show and it seems that the show has gained some sort of cult following from that. From all of the episodes I have seen, this is like an unfunny Seinfeld, following the lives of some really unlikeable and uninteresting characters who you are meant to sympathise with, but don't. It's in that half-assed comedy genre which I hate. You know, the drama with a few "jokes" thrown in and then it's labelled a "sitcom". But the writers seem to have missed the point of a sitcom - the situation should be part of the comedy. Seinfeld revolved around obsession with minutiae and teasing that idea out to absurd lengths. They took the trivial and made it interesting. For me, HIMYM is just a normal drama with only one main character thrown in for comic relief - Barney. Most of his comedy, as Che said, consists of pathetic ideas for picking up women. And I don't mean pathetic in the sense that I would describe George Costanza in Seinfeld, whose attempts to meet women are actually treated as pathetic in the show. By contrast, Barney is portrayed as a hero in the show, when in reality he would receive rejection after rejection for his lame pick-up attempts. Boring.che wrote:Firenze wrote:

Which is it would never ever be as good as Friends or Seinfeld. It's a poverty version of those shows. However I think you exaggerate a bit with saying characters are unlikable and uninteresting. HIMYM has its moments.

Silicon Valley looks like it might have some potential. Enjoyed every bit of it. Maybe because I'm a bit of a nerd myself but still...

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 3
I thought Silicon Valley was awful and couldn't believe that Mike Judge created it. Like M99 said, the characters were horrible, one note, and lame. The premise has potential and since Judge is in charge I'll give it a few more episodes.
