About UEFAs seeding system.. Are Arsenal right to be a Pot1 team ?

this stupid Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, has come out against UEFAs seeding system complaining that teams like Arsenal and United who have not reached the later stages in the last few years still are included in the pot1 while they are in pot4 despite reaching finals last season, accusing that we get an unfair advantage.. the current UEFA seeding system takes into consideration the last 5 years performances in the CL...

and this CEO believes teams like Dortmund who were crap and nowhere near CL before 2 years.. teams like P$G who spend huge money and bought their way into CL places, when there is talk and hype about promoting FFP.. deserve to be in a higher seed than us, who are playing CL for the 16th continuous time and being in the knockout stages for the 12th consecutive time.. defeating Barcelona, Dortmund, Milan, Bayern, etc in the last 2-3 years...

From his point of view he is right. Obviously clubs in the 4th pot will want to move to avoid tough opposition. We would be saying the same if we were in pot 4. Maybe a three year period for seeding would be more fair.

Only things I would change about it is weighing the victories by the quality of the opponent (ie beating Real Madrid should give you more points than beating Andelecht) and getting rid of the country's coefficient entirely as I don't see why the league rankings should have anything to do with club rankings. But other than that I find the system generally fine.

It is a hard one since I am glad that AFC is in pot 1. Since it gives us a better chance of going deeper in the tournament. I just do not know that we deserve to be based on the probability of us potentially winning. Since I really see our chances of winning the tournament as about the same as anyone that is in lesser pots.

it is understandable that he is talking in the interest of his club.. but there is no logic in his point.. the competition will become boring if big teams clash each other and get knocked out in group stages..
and consistency should be given more priority than the current form which can be a fluke or bought with money quickly while FFP remains blind..

Umm, he's not right, there's no logic to thinking seeding's should be based off one season.

No-one said it should be based on one season.. I think a reasonable argument could be made for a 3 season period as abirking said. 5 years is a long time in football. But hey we didn't exactly reap the benefits of being in pot 1 this year did we.

Over 3 seasons arsenal would still be pot 1 and dortmund wouldn't
