People can argue whether he's worth 16-17million, but they can't argue the fact that we've been desperately lacking a tough tackling DM for years.

We won't bid £17mil for a player we supposedly value at around £13mil... now I'm no accountant but, for me, that extra £4mil isn't a lot of money for a club with a budget that's more than £70mil and has freed up a significant amount of space on its wage bill.

I'm no advocate of overspending but there's no excuse for not going that little bit further to secure a player we really need.

Luckily for us, there are viable alternatives out there.

I think the new bid for Suarez will be £40,000,009 not £49m.

Our team is not that bad. You  lots make it seem like we are  around Evertons level and that we should count our blessings  to be around  the top 6  come winter time.

I'd be willing to bet Wenger sees the team the same way, and that's the problem. Do you think this is a title winning side?

The thing is, unless if you are one of those  clubs who just wo gun the lottory and are ready to splurge... one cannot "build" a title winning team over the course of the summer. Atleast not in  todays PL landscake. Would you guys not agree that we are gradually getting towards the summit? Especially when you compare our squad/ style of play/ our tactics to what it was like during the cesc-Nasri-RVP era. Sure our starting 11 looked bas ass but, did we defend as a unit? did we play against teams with alternate plans? What was our goal keeping situation like? Or what about a DM? Our bench had craptacular players like Silvestre, had to rely on Sol Campbell, a half assed Arshavin, Deneilson , Bendtner Traore.

If anything, the squad which we have now is more balanced than its ever been  (sinice the mid 2000s). I think if Walcott gets his scoring boots on from the get go... we will be in the mix.

AOX, Poldi, Rozza, Wilshere/Ramsey, Gibbs, Vermalaen sitting in our bench. THat looks pretty damn good to me.

nothing.. we kept hold of our players because there is no one left to sell..
if we say excuses and keep building, we will again finish 4th.. next season Kos the boss will leave when Barca or Buyern comes calling.. Sagna is gone and we will replace him with Jenko and start building again.. Rosicky may begin to tire after one more season at 33.. the likes of Walcott will start seriously thinking about alternate plans.. the only thing keeping Spuds below us is CL.. if they qualify one more time, then we are doomed..

Luiz Gustavo to Wolfsburg: Fee £18.8m. £115-130k a week wage.

Bayern & Wolfsburg have a very strong relationship due to Audi sponsorship. Player wanted guaranteed first-team football and has many Brazilian friends at Wolfsburg.

It's a shame (you have to say) that the players chose money over Arsenal. He's doubled his wage with Wolfsburg - but joins a club who finished mid-table in Germany last season and aren't in Europe.

Can you really blame Arsene for not going ahead with this? I can't. I wouldn't have paid this - even in our desperate circumstances.
