That said,

Discounting Mourinho's time at Inter is distinctly in poor taste. What other team beat that all-powerful Barca team as convincingly as his Inter side did in that first leg? Who kept Messi as quiet as Zanetti did in that match?

If you're going to trash the man, don't gloss over the stuff that you find inconvenient to your premise. It does not paint you in the best light.

I do agree that Mourinho and his attitude have contributed to be his achilles heel with his stint at Real Madrid but let's not kid ourselves, the man is a great manager.

Don't agree at all with the disregard to Inter's great success that season, you know, the season where they beat Barcelona at their pump head on. Also, you clearly omitted his time at Porto. I know people don't like to admit it but that is a great accomplishment despite him getting very lucky against Man Utd.

Not really a Mourinho fan, however he's being underrated here.

He was probably considered for the Man Utd job, however not a lot of managers are long term managers. Mourinho stays at a club 2-3 years, Man Utd wanted a long term manager.

He didn't really fail at Real Madrid. He's won a La Liga, a Copa del Rey and has a chance to win another. That isn't really failing. Took the club to the semis for 3 seasons in a row. I know it's either the Cup or nothing, however he did progress with the club, considering we weren't getting past the last 16.

He's going back to Chelsea because it's the best club that's available with a manager vacancy. It's his favourite club too. It's not because he couldn't cut it elsewhere.

Are you referring to the most titles won by a manager in the European Cup/CL?

Inter won a crap league with hardly any competition from 2007-10... Inter literally lost 2 games per season. Only real competition they had were Milan.

But Mourinho is still a very good manager due to the wins in the CL

A few points on the OP
- You calling our UCL semi defeats as choking makes me believe a) u started watching footy 3 years back and are unfamiliar with a proper choke-job
b) u are unfamiliar with the word Choke and are just throwing it around.

- He wasn't considerd for the Man U job probably coz of his unwillingness to stick around for long, as against his coching record, which is quite splendid in England.

- His 'US AGAINST THE WORLD' approach at chelsea and inter mean that he is passionately loathed by his opponents and passionately loved by his own club supporters. This is the reason he wants to go back 'home' to chelsea and NOT coz he can't cut it elsewhere.

- His record at Porto alone is enough to ensure him a place amongst the greatest modern day managers. Nuff said

- Oh, and the part about Inter not having competiton is just BS of the highest order. Roma were very unlucky to not win the league that year. And Inter beat the Champions of Spain, England, and Germany to win the UCL. I don't know what more competition you want.

- Calling His time at Madrid a failure is a bit extreme IMO. Sure he underachieved, but the improvements were quite tangible (breaking the Barca hoodoo, massive imprvmnt in the UCL, winning the first Copa in two decades). Still not enough to be a success, but definetly not a failure.

I doubt you will ever see Mou manage a truly elite club ever. After the madrid debacle Pr-wise, that door is shut forever unless the club is in disarray... and even then.

this thread is too funny, for me if anything the farce that is real madrid showed itself...Where players are more powerful than the coach, where some players are not benchable..Madrid is doomed with the kind of insane player power showcased by their so called captain and ramos...No one can ever be bigger than the coach, madrid also were having an abysmal record till jose came in. I can agree with some of that, but I'm super glad Barca snubbed him. And we showed that we could become the best without him, luckily. No one denies his past credentials or the fact that he has had personally an awesome career. But what if be hadn't been so insufferable, arrogant and classless in the last 4 yrs. of his career?

He wouldn't of been any less successful if he hadn't been such a douche and even if some see his douchy-ness with Pep as "mind games", he still wasn't all that successful at Real.

It just seems as if that whole "trolling, mind game" mentality which he thrived on for a bit is now the main reason most clubs (especially bigger clubs) would want nothing to do with him.
