AVB-Levy combo

I'm assuming it's a free transfer as well right? If they somehow land a Top 4 spot this year they're going to be a legitimate title contender next season in my opinion. They have elite level talent with the likes of Bale, Holtby, Vertonghen, Lloris, Dembele now and hell even the likes of Lennon, Defoe & Caulker have improved greatly under AVB's tutelage. If they sign a Top 10-12 striker next year they'll definitely be a problem for the rest of the PL.

Btw, let the tiresome Wilshere-Holtby comparisons begin.

I thought I was the only one that was thinking that.

Nah Holtby's a good signing, but I dunno...I have my reservations about his ability to play in the VDV position for Spurs, if that's what AVB is going for here.

Why would i be lol ? He wasn't going to come in to sit on the bench. I wanted him when ramsey was going through a shit period. But now that he is finally showing his old form, Holtby can go to spurs.

Because if he was going to Arsenal he would be a lot more than " decent " and " good signing "

That's not how it works, Mole

Anyone we sign is shit and average

Like Cazorla, Mertesacker, Podolski, Arteta, Giroud etc.

But they ONLY become average when we sign them.....

Dempsey/Sigurdsson/Holtby free-for-all at WHL next season. Winner gets to play in behind a mediocre striker and with two studs out wide.

Obviously. No denying that. Gervais was the next Pires ffs

anyways, Raphael Honigstein

"He's a no10 who can play deeper but isn't quite ready for that yet. ok in wide positions but not really at his best there. His main problem is inconsistency. not always at the level that we saw from him v Arsenal at the Emirates and for German U21. Don't see a way for him to play for Germany at the moment. but that doesn't really matter"

Great signing from Spurs..Best team in North London

They still need a quality striker though but i'm sure they'll address that problem in the summer. In AVB i believe.

It's a fantasic signing for Tottenham, I mean, just think about it, Holtby for free...
A deep bow from me to Levy, that guy knows his hairstyle and transfers.

(like, look at Modric to Madrid for ÂŁ33m (Wiki), has he been worth that money over there? No. Are Tottenham challenging for top-4 without him? Yes. Levy  )

Honestly i'd be shocked if they are in CL next season and a quality CF isn't bought.

Ade and Defoe are not going to cut it at that level.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. They did finish 4th last season with that striker pair, you know.

Mole is addressing the problem that this pair will be out of their depth within the Champions League and I agree as quite frankly, they aren't good enough for Tottenham's aspirations.

OT: Really is a disappointment Liverpool couldn't capitalize on this move. If I disliked Spurs as much as I recently did with Redknapp then I would be in tears as Holtby is one of my favourite German players. I'm happy to see him be coached under AvB though and not some clueless fool like Stevens. It also is a positive for us that he didn't join Everton as we predicted. I wish him good luck nonetheless. Although no, he isn't better than Wilshere.

Don't kid yourself. Ramsey is still ass. He's no better than a squad player at best for us. Especially if we want to legitimately compete for anything, but I'm not sure if we do...

Can't help but arguing that there are clubs with worse strikers than Defoe and Adebayor reaching the last-16 this season, too. While already reaching the group stages financially and image-wise be a brilliant achievement. If I were AVB I wouldn't worry about my striker department too much. After all Defoe has scored 10 goals in the Premiership this season and Ade scored 17 last season, it's not like they can't find the back of the net.

I respect you Arte but you're being too light on Ade and Defoe here. I agree that Spurs need a top striker badly. Defoe, despite his 10 premiership goals is streaky and misses too many easy chances when he's off form (which is half the time really). Ade has great link up play, hold up play, and is overall a great forward, but his finishing is not top quality, and he's good enough to help Spurs to a 4th place, but not to take Spurs to that extra level.

Spurs are lacking a clinical striker. Unless Defoe is in red hot form like he was earlier this season, we don't put our chances away well enough. That's ignoring age as well. Defoe is 30, Ade will be 29 in less than 2 months, hardly the striking pair you want up front in terms of age and ability to finish off chances. I don't think they will cut it if we are to play in the CL and be serious top 4 contenders year in year out.

We need someone young, someone good. We need Daimiao.

Anyway, this is a great deal for Tottenham. Typical Levy stuff this one- Holtby for free is a bargain and I can't wait to see the young man in a Spurs shirt. People might worry that he wasn't gotten in January, but I think we can manage without him until then, and I like the forward thinking Tottenham are showing already strengthening for next year.

I agree that with a top striker Spurs are a real trouble for the EPL next year. Title contenders? I'm not sure, we're a ways away yet, but with AVB as coach and Levy continuing to make great transfers, the sky is the limit. What remains to be seen is if Levy is willing to break the bank for players like Willian and Moutinho. I'm not sure he is unless we sell Bale. I hope he is however, because those types of transfers are the ones that will make Tottenham EPL challengers if successful.
