Giaccherini on Italy, Napoli and Inter
Emanuele Giaccherini cast his eye over Italy’s World Cup qualifier with Denmark, next week’s Juventus-Napoli showdown and Inter’s Scudetto ambitions.
The versatile midfielder rarely plays for the Bianconeri, but is a regular in Cesare Prandelli’s squad and could start Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier.
“This is a very important game. We are meeting a strong opponent, but must step on to the field with the same attitude we took against Armenia and bring home the victory,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.
“I do not agree with those who say I have more space in the Nazionale than Juve. I have played four of the seven Serie A rounds so far and it’s difficult to be a first choice pick in big clubs. If I have impressed Prandelli, then it is with my effort and enthusiasm in training.”
Giaccherini is likely to be facing Juventus teammate Nicklas Bendtner on Tuesday evening.
“He is an important player who in the past has done well with Arsenal. He is one to worry about on Tuesday, much like the entire Danish team.
“Bendtner can also become important for Juve, as he has different characteristics to the other four strikers we have. He’s very good in the air.”
However, another Juventus man has been criticised for his performance in Armenia, namely Sebastian Giovinco.
“At this moment we are all under fire because people expected us to win 6-0, which is just unrealistic. Armenia have some players who are in the Champions League.
“As for Giovinco, he started very well with Juve this season and already scored three goals. I read what he said and have to agree, a player must be judged on overall performance and not just his goals.”
Serie A resumes with a bang on Saturday, as Juventus and Napoli face off in a top of the table showdown.
“Napoli right now have more belief and strength, but the whole season will tell us if they are on our level or not. At the moment, Napoli are our main antagonists,” noted Giaccherini.
“I see Napoli as a solid side that wins and is well-drilled with many of the same players over a long period. Inter are a little behind, as their project is just beginning.”
