Atletico reveal new stadium plans
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/993093/atletico-madrid-reveal-new-stadium-plans?cc=3436
Atletico Madrid have unveiled plans for a new 70,000-capacity stadium which is set to replace the existing Vicente Calderon as their home from 2015.
Club dignitaries gathered to promote the new venue, with work having already begun on it. Atletico believe the stadium will be worthy of hosting major national, continental and international sporting and entertainment events once it is completed.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo said at the presentation in comments reported by the club's official website: "Today is an important day, I would say that it is one of the most important days in the history of this club.
"There are not many times one has the opportunity to live a historical moment as relevant, in the life of a sports club, as this.''

Re: Atletico reveal new stadium plans
Eugggh another boring bowl stadium. Isn't 70k+ abit unrealistic btw? I don't think even Madrid and Barca usually fill out their stadiums week in week out.
Oh and Atleti

Was thinking that.
How much is the Calderon and do they even fill it now?

Doesn't Villarreal (that's the name of the town/city right?) have a ridiculously small population though?

That stadium looks a bit too big. And how do Atleti have the money to do this?
Vila-Real is the town, and yes, it is very small. I guess they have fanbase from the surrounding area too, though.

Re: Atletico reveal new stadium plans
yes they do but that doesnt mean they cant renovate that ugly stadium of theirs
and in Spain its usual to have a stadium which is 10 x above your capacity i dont know why they do that but it looks like the stadiums are empty then
if Villarreal can reduce the numbers of seats they have got from 25 000 to around about the average number of fans that turn up they'd make a ridiculous atmosphere... heck Levante get more fans than them lol

Re: Atletico reveal new stadium plans
there's no way they're going to fill 70k seats, they barely average 45 and the novelty factor will wear off
stadium will be the pride of segunda when they financially ruin themselves :lucas:

Getafe's Dubai owners should build them a big new stadium to fit all their fans.

Re: Atletico reveal new stadium plans
I'm pretty sure if Atleti start playing well consistently in the league and in Europe I'm pretty sure they would be able to fill that stadium.
They have a very large fan base in Madrid (albeit not very patient )and the Claderon is easily filled for big games.

Re: Atletico reveal new stadium plans
NIce stadium!
I thought they were going to move to the new "La Peineta". This one's cool cause it has no field track. It looks a lot like Emirates from inside.
I hope this stadium can help them attract more fans and more money, so they can compete more (and erode Madrid's fanbase a bit).
