Re: International Break Thread: Last one this year!
Just watched highlights of Turkey 1-3 Germany.
Mertesacker started for the away side and looked pretty decent and unfussy.
He wasn't at fault for Turkey goal which is good.
Gomez and Muller in fantastic form yet again

Looks a fine player who will add so much to our attack if he is just played! We need him to get some games.
Re: International Break Thread: Last one this year!
Alex Song's Cameroon have failed to reach the ACN next January.
Great news for Arsenal.
But Ivory Coast (Gervinho) and Ghana (Emmanuel Frimpong) will be going, as both countries have qualified.
Morroco (Chamakh) play Tanzania tomorrow in a crucial qualifier.

Guess we wont feel Frimpong's absence much as we also have Coquelin. Gervinho going will be a huge loss

I prefer Coquelin to Frimpong so not his loss is not too bad at all.

Agree with Sam.
I actually loved how both of them played together against Shrewsbury.

Agreed
I think we should send Ryo on a 2 months loan deal so he can at least have some experience when Gervinho goes. We will be really short on LW's

Re: International Break Thread: Last one this year!
Tuesday: (all times are uk)
Germany v Belgium 6pm, France v Bosnia 8pm (both on ESPN uk)
Mertesacker in Germany squad, Koscielny in France squad. (Vermaelen, Sagna, Diaby injured obviously )
Lithuania v Czech Rep 7.45pm
Rosicky set for another 90 minutes for Czechs, who look set to qualify for play-offs
Bulgaria v Wales 7.05pm
Dead-rubber game but Ramsey set to captain side again.
Sweden v Holland 7pm
Holland already qualified, whilst Sweden already in play-offs so another dead-rubber, hopefully RVP is not used.
Malta v Israel 6pm
Benayoun set to captain side again, dead-rubber game. Israel failed to qualify.
Russia v Andorra 6.45pm
Russia will qualify for Euro 2012 with a draw regardless of Ireland's result because of head-to-head. Arshavin set to captain side again.

Re: International Break Thread: Last one this year!
Morocco are through to ACN.
Chamakh, Gervinho and Frimpong (if selected) will all be unavailable for Arsenal for all of Jan and maybe half of Feb. (Depends on how far countries go in tournament and how early squads travel out to Africa to prepare).
Tournament runs from Jan 21 - Feb 12.
-
Personally, I think only Gervinho will be missed to any degree. Wilshere should be closing in on a return around this period, whilst of course the Jan window will be open. Coquelin and Park have proven their abilities (for club and country) in recent weeks, so Frimpong and Chamakh won't be missed imo.

Park has scored again for S.Korea, this time against UAE. Haven't seen the goal yet though.
Elsewhere, Mertesacker is starting again for Germany, against Belgium. Obviously Vermaelen is injured though.

Mertesacker was solid apart from the Belgium goal that came from a failed clearance. Fellaini won him a HEADER from a corner.
Nice to see the Arsenal set piece training doing its magic

I watched the game and I thought Mertesacker was ok but his passing was poor. I don't think he was at fault for the Fellaini goal though. If you watch it closely he was marking someone else at first but then had to come across.
