gandhi jayanti/ international non violence day
on this day about 142 years ago in a small room in a sleepy fishing village called Porbandar Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born..
he went on to became india's greatest and arguably the world's finest man of the 20th century preaching a revolutionary set of principles based on ahimsa( no violence ) at the time of two of the worst wars ever and the truth... got many revolutionary moments underway, using salt as a mean of protest.. incredible.. spent so much time in jail that today it has become legendary.. his ashram Sabarmati ashram was very well run and organised with every body leaving and co existing peaceful with a fixed amount of income irrespective of what they earnt.. was against partition of pakistan and believed in equality of all religions.. also called the lowest classes deemed as shudras in India's traditional draconian caste system which had continued for centuries as 'HARIJANS OR THE GOD'S PEOPLE.. during the ugly communal riots following independence and partition was busy hunger fasting and stopping people from massacring each other in the name of religion.. ironically was killed by a hindu fundamentalist..
some of his principles arent as effective now but
an eye for an eye will still make the world blind in any century

Gandhi, when asked what he thought of Western civilization: "I think it would be a good idea."
