Well unfortunately we have had a horrid run with injuries to most of our midfield so he has had to play out of position.

Until we are back fit again we won't know his intended use.

Lass can't start for us yet either because he did ZERO pre-season training with us.

Wait until the dust settles we get some players back and see what happens after that.

As it stands now too early too judge, although all things considered I feel he has done a pretty good job playing out of position for the sake of the team, the only grip I have is that he tends to crowd the open space where Marcelo likes to push ahead and roam.

Coentraos offensive capability was one of those reasons why was he bought, he isint good as Marcelo, bur he can do that job with no problem.

Marcelo is still much better than him offensively,specially when it comes to dribbling and passing

Ofcourse, Marcelos passing and crossing is a wc, same goes to dribbling, whereas Coentrao is an awesome dribbler himself, only hes lack of passing, makes me miserable. Crosses are fine infact. Defensivly Coentrao is more less of a mistake prone than Marcelo imo, but I havent seen him alot as lb, to fully justify him by that.

Marcelo isn't even near the caliber of these guys, anyways. They're young still, so we don't know, but right now they're no where near the finished product.

Cashley is 31 in December and Lahm 28 in November, I wouldnt call them young. Cashley has been an undisputed lb for god knows how long, if anyone is taking the crown from him someday its gonna be Marcelo, I hope Cool

Marcelo has shown multiple times he is the right LB and the LB Madrid is looking for. I can't see what more he has to prove.

Last season he showed he is defensively solid, great attacker and good linkup with everyone in the team. And like Ganso said, he gives this extra dimension to our attack. Some will deny this but it is very noticable when we play without Marcelo.

Coentrao offers only the defensive side. He is NOT great attacker. Good crosser, his dribbling has barely amazed me at his CM role and winger role. There is a reason he wasn't fantastic at LW and that was simply he wasnt the great attacker people made him look.

Sure, he is a defender. But that is not the only quality our play looks for.

Ashley Cole is so overrated,he isnt solid in any aspect of a FB.Not great at going forward neither is he great at defending.Hes an average fb imo.No way is he better than Marcelo and there is absolutely no way hes better than Lahm
