Galliani was right after all...
Serie A is going down rapidly, and deservedly too thanx to lousy performances by majority of the teams in the Europa League and partly in the Champions League as well in the over the years.
Now there is a 12+ gap between Bundesliga and Serie A, and if Serie A was not bothered about that they have now more worries in the form of Ligue 1, who is now only 3 points away, and even the Portuguese league is begining to threaten the status of Serie A.
Let's just take a look at the teams currently playing in Europe: Milan Inter Napoli Udinese Lazio, that's only 5 teams. 3 in CL and 2 in Europa League. It's very likely that both Udinese and Lazio may not progress from the groupstage, and place all the weight on the shoulders of the CL trio. Napoli is most likely knockd-out already in the group with bayern, city villareal. that leaves only milan and inter. while both teams is certain to qualify for round of 16, i am afraid that's the last we see of them this season in europe.
so this leaves germany to make the gap even bigger with schalke hanover making the semifinals at least, and with PSG looking strong favourite to go all the way in the Europa League coupled with the small succes of Lyon and Marseille in the CL, Ligue 1 will have overtaken Serie A come may 21.
Perhaps Serie A will never fully recover, and die away. Serie A to only have 2 teams in the CL from 2013, and being overtaken by the Russian Premier League, anyone?

R.I.P SERIE A! REST IN PEACE. You were Glorious while you were young, but time has come to lay in rest.

Lazio is the best team in EL
And how about waiting for the teams to actually get eliminated before saying stuff like this

You may be right and maybe Ligue 1 WILL overtake Serie A in the very near future, however i'm not as doomsday worried as you are.
If push comes to shove i'm sure Berlusconi will force Italian city councils to bend over so Italian teams can begin constructing their stadiums and that will make Serie A back on top 3.

Re: Galliani was right after all...
it wouldnt bother me, at least then the italians would get their asses moving an finally join the modern game
im not sure about this but i read somewhere that eufa will start giving CL points more weight in calculating the cooficient. if that's true then the italians have nothing to worry about as they have a very good CL results in the past 5 years

You know its easy going downhill fast, the hard part is going up again
Seria a needs to wake up, that unimportant trophy needs to be important, the clubs need the stadiums, allow more non-eu player if you can't churn out enough italians.

The big players will always prefer Italy over France
and even though they're beating us at the moment, the world class players will still prefer a move to Milan, Inter or Juve then to Bayern or Dortmund
The history and legacy of Serie A is what still keeps the league one of the worlds best

Well as the league that is the biggest producer of talent into Europe, we can just develop the world class players you speak of and just not transfer them immediately....
History and legacy mean very little to more global fans, the second Milan starts slipping along with the already slipping Inter and Juve, with an upswing in performance by French clubs in CL will cut deeply into the leagues reputation on a global level
And if Italy does drop another rank, they will suffer the financial implications that will not allow them to spend the money to even obtain the stars.

No wonder, Serie A fans don't comment on the topic here
