they sold mathieu, a 30 yo make shift CB for 20 millions, pretty amazing. Hector Moreno is coming to replace him, no problem, obviously he will have to perform but it's ok. Same with Bernat, he was more a winger than a defender and they have an endless line of young talents at LB lol. next in line is some kid named Gaya, and i think there is another but forgot his name.

Héctor Moreno is not bad but Valencia haven't got him yet.
Bernat is pretty much a carbon copy of Alba, not sure if I can call him a winger but I can't call him a defender either. Same with Gayá actually

Yes, traditionally we have a hard time finding defenders that can fit into Barca's system, play a high line, interchange defensive positions etc

Just because you're a good defender doesn't mean you can play in a high line, remember when John Terry attempted that in AVB's stint I believe. And I think the world of John Terry but he was down right awful playing in that type of defense.

Gomes already joined Valencia. They're building a decent team imo.

In terms of Mathieu, I think he'll be a rotation player. They'll still go for someone like Marquinhos.

Enzo Pérez, Jackson haven't signed yet and Valencia will face tough competition from other clubs to sign these two.

Filipe Augusto is an unknown player, so is the coach Nuno. I hope Salvo knowns what he's doing this time because he's flopped since he took over from Manuel Llorente.

For anyone who doesn't follow La Liga the Mathieu signing is no surprise. We have literally been flirting with signing him for 3 years now.

The guy is a really good COMPLETE player. I would put him in the mold of a bigger more defensive Adriano who you can fit into the lineup a bunch of different ways. He can go on some killer runs too though, he can be a nightmare to deal with going forward (I know that's not why were signing him).

I have flat out seen him take over games and look like the best player on the pitch during Valencia games and if I get a Valencia game on TV it means they were playing another good team.

Sure 20 mill is the top price for him but IMO we paid that extra money for peace of mind. He is a safe signing that fills holes. There's no risk with him.

I'd take him over Marquinhos all day long right now. Probably not at the end of his contract but IMO Marquinhos is overrated and a risk at over 30 million.

Barca paid the release clause for Mathieu, not like they exactly let him walk.
