Re: Man United the Fortuitous
vs. Benfica should be great, at least.
I ain't complaining, but I'm actually disappointed that we didn't get one of the bigger Pot 3/4 teams (Dortmund, Ajax) for more epic matches...
you never know though, Otelul might become what Rubin were to Barca before lol

To build confidence, I guess. Or to develop the kids.
At least whoever comes out of the other decent groups come out battle hardened.

Man United the Fortuitous
How did I know? How did I know that there would be one group would be as bland as the town of Villareal. (Group G) How did I know that Real would facing one way or another with Ajax always squashed in the middle? How did I know that Chelsea yet again would receive a group in which they can lay back? How did I know that Barca will face Milan (well this was my personal instinct) and how did I know that Gianni Infantino would continue to make jokes year after year to make me cringe through the whole ordeal?
I didn't but I did know one thing and knew that it would damn well be close.
Introducing Project Howard Webb: A series of Man Utd group stages in which the past years have been easier for them then a sevillan whore. I don't have to go before 2006/2007 as although United continued to receive easy groups, they simply were struggling in europe and even failed to qualify in the 2004-2005 season (correct me if I'm wrong.
10-11 Man Utd, Valencia, Bursaspor, Rangers
09-10 Man utd, CSKA Moscow, Wolfsburg, Beşiktaş,
08-09 Man Utd, Villareal, Aalborg, Celtic
2007/2008 Man. Utd, Roma, Sporting, Dynamo Kiev.
2006/2007 Manchester United Celtic, Benfica, Copenhagen
Is it by the hand of:
Manchester United's greasy owner who is the enemy of more then half of the United fans as although he doesn't receive the credit he deserves. But with his net worth of $2.6 billion, I'm sure he has the power to influence the semi-incompatent obese officials who manage the UEFA.
The legendary gaffer responsible for United's recent success' who seems to not only have great power within the FA, but considerable influence towards UEFA. Some here can point out examples going against this, but it is outweighed with the evidence that SAF is more then a manager within football and gotten to the point where he seems to be feared? No?
Howard Webb, who is Webb is "counted amongst the top referees of all time by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics"
He is known as "Agent Webb", "Howard the Manc" or "Howard the Yorkshireman who loves Mancs"
He needs no intro.
Fun fact: He was a cop before his refereeing job.
Paul Breitner, a former yet controversial German who proceeded with most of the seeding today as he looked all to suspect and conniving. There was something about his leer when performing his task....
So in essence, while United continue to walk through their group stages as it is expected (Valencia presenting a solid challenge though), lets continue to wonder how next year will pan out exactly in the same fashion with the group stages with United as all signs point to yes.
Will something be done about it? Probably not.
Is this meant to be taken seriously? Nope...... or is it?

Re: Man United the Fortuitous
its just random who face who as we all witness each live draw...
Yes our groups have not been that hard but villareal, wolfsburg(when they had dzeko and just won bundesliga) valencia, roma, cska etc are no pushovers.

Re: Man United the Fortuitous
GiggsL: You have some points there but its a given that all big teams at least receive one superpower team to face off at least every 2 years as I can't remember the last time that happened. The teams mentioned by you are all good teams yet possess little experience in Europe and don't exactly scream danger. I could say the same about Chelsea and Arsenal (bar this year) who almost always get easy groups and have been for years.
Whatever, I'm just sad Liverpool aren't in the CL and Man C(h)ity are.

Re: Man United the Fortuitous
Arc...tell the honest truth, would you be complaining and taking cheap shots about bribing if either Milan or LFC had this type of group?
Let's break down what you're saying. Last season's CL group, we were paired with Valencia ( a very good La Liga team), the Turkish champions and the SPL champions. Hardly a walkthrough is it?
the seasons before, we get paired with atleast 2 decent teams, teams capable of giving United a challenge, plus a minnow.
It is not United's fault that they are seeded along with the 2 Spanish giants + Inter Milan and Bayern...who else is there that is hard enough to challenge? we ovbiously ain't gonna play the BPL teams.
In the past it can be argued that Barca had easy groups and Arsenal too. It just happens that this year, we have a really easy group this time.
Basically, I don't understand why you are complaining we get easy groups when this is the only time we have a genuinely easy group.

Re: Man United the Fortuitous
5.55pm: CONSPIRACY! There is a problem in the draw for the last 3 teams," says Tristan Rudgard. "Ghenk is drawn third last and they list only Groups B and E that they can be drawn into (and therefore only pick balls for those groups). However, there is no reason why they could not be drawn into group F (Arsenal's group) as there are no other Belgian teams in the draw. Penultimate team is Trabzonspor and they place them into Group B as they show no other open groups - however, there is also no reason why they could not have be drawn into Group F. Finally Dortmund are allocated to the only remaining group, F. The system broke down and did not show Group F as a valid option for the last 3 picks. Redraw?" Let's not
