Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
we were the better side by some distance but the forwards just didnt click especially borjan and osvaldo was wasteful.
Wont be a cutting of enrique's head but i will certainly question his 4-3-3 formation its not a formation that would go well with roma untill he gets some better def...

Cassetti is going to get a red. That backstroke in the box was awesome though. We seem disconnected. There is to much space between our attack-mid-d again...

Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
We do seem to be recovering the ball a lot quicker this half than in the first so that's encouraging. DDR is getting on the ball more and what's more is that he's finding a bit of space as Novara tire.
LE has now thrown on Bojan, while Novara have thrown on another defensive player. We want 3 points. They want a draw.

Wonderful skill from Rosi in the corner. He's looked pretty solid today.

Excellent from Lamela, but Osvaldo really ruined that chance...slowing down playing and not getting his head up to see the runners. He's got to link up better.

Big save from Stekelenburg!
Cassetti got mirked by Meggiorini on that chance....absolutely turned inside out.
Very dangerous from Novara on the counter...we easily could've conceded there if not for Stek.

What a tackle from Gago to get possession back.
What a ball from Pjanic to pick him out.
And what a finish from Bojan to put us ahead.
Great stuff!

Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
Im trying to keep in mind this is the first game of the season, but the match against Verona was an all around bad performance for a team setting its sights on the title, and already further exposes Garcia's bland approach to games like this.
Up until we went behind, their was no real focus by anyone on the pitch for Roma. Clumsy passes, poor and bobbled first touches, WAY too much time on the ball with little off the ball movement, the list could go on and on. This team is clearly at its best in an open game where they can play fast on the break, but even when such chances presented themselves today we either broke 15 yards and then played a back pass to midfield or simply looked unfocused and played a poor final ball.
It seems Garcia's game plan against an organized side with men behind the ball, is to lure them into pressing by playing pointless passes between the the midfield and defence. This does not work in Italy. Teams are content waiting behind half and wont press out of their shell and leave themselves exposed. Something has to be done soon on a tactical level or we will see many other dower draws against mid table Serie A teams, I guarantee it.

Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
Meh, was more of the same.
Garcia needs to be careful. More draws like this one will spell the end for him. He won't see the end of the season if we get results like that.
I do think bringing in a full-back like Digne should help though. Toro was awful at LB.
Ale is a great player, but he shouldn't be playing at RB. The more he scores from that position, the more I keep thinking that way.
Salah and Gervinho were ridiculously one-dimensional. Dzeko was simply starved of service. And not Totti as well when we needed the vision...but of course Ibarbo provides that

Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
If Rudi is going to keep playing the same ineffective tactics then he should be fired. I appreciate what he has done with the team for the past few seasons but we have been mediocre since last winter. We now have the pieces in attack to be extremely dangerous and he needs to make it work.

Oh and how does Totti not even see the pitch this past Saturday and that scrub Ibarbo plays? Sh*t like this does you no favors in the eyes of the fans

Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
Thoughts on an XI for the Juve match?
Digne isn't fit enough so he likely won't see action so that means more Toro at LB . Castan and Manolas at CB is fine with me.
Maicon returns at RB so that will push Flo either to the bench or on the wings ahead of either Salah or Gervinho. Ale is simply too good not to start so one of those 2 has to ride the pine, for me at least.
Midfield should stay the same, but I want to see DDR there somewhere. Totti needs to see action in this game. Dzeko won't be benched as he's the biggest signing, but that doesn't mean Rudi should bring on Ibarbo again.

Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
Knowing Rudi and his reluctance for change I think we will see an identical line up from last week with Digne at LB.
What I would like to see is Totti or Ljajic start on the the left with Dzeko in the middle and Salah on the right. MDS should start too.

Salah/gerv Dzeko Falque/Ljajic
Ninja Pjanic
DDR

Bring Totti for dzeko from 60min and one of the salah/gerv who sat on bench for ljajic/falque. the reverse can also work but it requires dzeko to sit on bench instead of Totti

Yeah close to 0% chance Dzeko is benched for this game. Totti will lose out again unfortunately. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as he doesn't have 90 minutes in him anyway, but I don't think Rudi will use him correctly.

Re: AS Roma Matchday Commentary Thread
Garcia is too stubborn to change his beloved 4-3-3, though 4-2-3-1 is not that different. Pjanic needs to be used more central, in the "hole" and replaced by Totti at some point.
Salah needs to play, he has promise. Unlike Gervinho, who we just cant get rid of.
Falque looked good preseason, he should start.
