Just how important playing for a big club and in big league is
Ronaldo when playing for PSV was/is terribly UNDERRATED. everybody talk about his barcelona, inter, realmadrid days, but when he played for PSV he was just as good, but the reason is just how terribly the system is. a talented player can never get the accolades he deserves if he isn't playing for the biggest teams and in the biggest leagues. it may seem logical to many, since u have to be in the best teams to be considered the best, but this just proves the unfair system. a player could perform miracles in a small team and/or in a small league, but he will always be behind those playin for the top clubs in big leagues, unless he changes to those big clubs in big leagues.
42 goals in 46 games while he was 17-18 years old. i am very confident that he was on par with, if not better than, those established superstars like Maldini,Weah, Klinsmaan and the others. He was just not famous yet, and he obviously became famous to the worldwide audience when he joined barca. it seems unfair how players can't be the world's best if they aren't playing for the biggest clubs or in the biggest leagues. this means no matter how redicolously good you are, if u are playing for a small team in small leagues, ur efforts will never be applauded for it's real worth
another example is ronaldinho was tearing the french league apart but he was not even rated amongst top 20 players of that moment, before he had to join barca to get the applaude he deserved....the system is very unfair for these players.

Re: Just how important playing for a big club and in big league is
Sadly it is quite important here in England, especially if a player has international aspirations and wants to play for England. Crapello has a southern Bias and wont even travel north to watch players.
He encourages players to move to "glory clubs". Its easier to pick players from so called bigger clubs than less fashionable teams. Which is wrong in my opinion players should be chosen to represent their national team by merit and how well they do on the pitch and not which club they play for.
Look at Bent, overlooked for the world cup when he was here at Sunderland, instead we took Heskey who had worse goal scoring records than 3 goal keepers who were in south africa.
Bent moves to Villa and hes the next best thing since sliced bread. Same will happen with Hendo, he got one friendly call up but I think that was more down to things the media were saying. If he starts a few games for Liverpool he will be straight into the upcoming England squads.
Same happened with Super Kevin Philips, I doubt many of you will even know who he is. But he is the only English player to win the European golden boot. Yet he was still didn't get much of a chance for England.

Re: Just how important playing for a big club and in big league is
Take Utd for example. We are the pride of England. Being the pride of a global mainstay that has helped shape the world into what we know and admire is a monumental honour. We are England, we dont have corruption of any form, racism is almost non existent...only surviving and incubating by those dirty foreigners and their so called internet. We welcome your poor, your socially inept and award them huge benifit claims, council houses the size of their entire shanty town. From Monty Python to those probable dole cheats from 3rd world Liverpool, The Beatles, we have shaped pop culture and redifined what it is to be talented. Proudly we have carried on that tradition with the emergence of Geordie Shore and The Saturdays, never mind The Only Way is Essex. Glamourous celebrities such as Katie Price have adorned the covers of the worlds most prestigious fashion catalogues, be it Nuts or Zoo magazine. You say its important to be in a big league and I say damn right it is, for we are Utd and we are better than you

Re: Just how important playing for a big club and in big league is
Ronaldo and Ronaldinho commanded pretty hefty fees when they moved from PSV and PSG .
Underrated is the wrong term to use here , I mean is someone like Hazard underrated now ? Or take the case of the guy in my avtar , Alessandro Nesta . or Pavel Nedved .Their Lazio days seem long forgotten , but that doesnt mean they were underrated then . It just means Milan and Juventus have a lot more fans than Lazio .
Of course , if they didnt make moves to big clubs , they wouldn't be celebrated as much as they are now . But personally i think that's just a side-effect of getting a bigger set of fans , and a bigger set of audience (if they are moving to a more watched league).
