i say deal!
Jones, PFK/Poulsen (I know neither is a CB, but both are expected to defend)
No need to waste 5m when we already have such players in the squad.

Re: GK & Defence Thread
Enrique looked a class apart from what i have seen since a couple of years in LB.
But would love it if he goes forward more.
Why do you think Flano played while Kelly was available?
I think we would have won by a big margin if Kelly/Enrique would have been bombarding forward.
Kenny needs to sort that out, Our Full backs have been great asset to attack ever since Riise/Glen came in .. We still depend on them for some more place to pass. In the Sund game we were excellent in our passing but then the wingers had to pass it back to the CM's considering the Full backs where still standing with the CB's . The decreased our rate of creating goal scoring chances.

Hope he starts to get the recognition he deserves and a call up to Spain and cements himself as thier LB because he deserves it ( Just gave me an idea for a thread actually)

So you guys happy with this:
---------------Reina---------------
Glen-Carragher-Agger-Enrique
Another thing, whom would you want as back-up for Enrique:
1. Agger
2. Kelly
3. Aurelio
4. Wilson
5. Robinson
6. Insua

Aurelio, obviously. He's a class act when fit and a natural LB to boot.

Re: GK & Defence Thread
Aurelio and Robinson as Enrique's back-up.
Although if Enrique isnt' available, I wouldn't mind seeing Glen as LB again while Kelly playing RB (or Flanagan if he's in-form).

Thought Carragher-Agger are doing fine (watched only the 3Q with Sunderland). But yes, any back-up other than Kyrgiakos is essential for PoM.

Who would be your first choice RB?
Glen or Kelly?
Presuming Kelly is more than happy to make Rb his new position.

Re: GK & Defence Thread
I would pick Glen over Kelly for this season. However, with both showing chronic injury issues, would be happy to have either. Meaning, wish at least one of them is fit for each game

Re: GK & Defence Thread
I hope both get their chances and whoever takes them better will become the regular starter.
Also what Ifty said about injuries, I'll be happy as long as we've got at least one of them fit...

Re: GK & Defence Thread
Carra will be toasted by Bale if he starts on the right against Tottenham. I don't have a great deal of faith in Carra's ability to check Bale's pace, given Carra's advancing years. His knowledge and instinct are beyond question, but his physical ability has to be, at this point. If we start Carra on the right, we risk more situations like the one against Stoke, where Carra has to make up for his pace by committing fouls. He needs to be in the center of defense or coming off the subs bench. I would prefer Flanno over Carragher if Glen and Kelly are both ruled out.

Re: GK & Defence Thread
I say give Flanno back on! ! the kid had one bad game true but has the ability to do far far better! ! if Kelly & Glen are out my choice is Flanno! !
At CB fully fit Skrtel & Agger . . without a seconds hesitation

The incredible things an injury free season to a CB partnership could do....I've never been more happy with our defense.

I think ye're nuts. Carragher has to be a starter!
He is still by far our best defender.
We need his leadership and organisational skills on the pitch. If we are to get a new CB, playing along side Jamie for a season is what he needs.
Well ICS...

Re: GK & Defence Thread
Its great to see Agger and Skrtel being given a solid run together. Its amazing how long it has taken this to happen (i have been saying this for some time ) considering they are our best 2 defenders for sometime
Frankly Carra should have been relegated to bench a year ago.And i dont think we would have given this partnership a chance if not for Carra's injury.I just hope the points we lost by the time taken to replace Carra with Skrtel hasnt cost as a top 4 spot.
And the improvement Skrtel has since the start of the year has been really amazing in particular his areal ability. And our defenders (Agger and Johnson in particular) have always been underrated so its good to see them getting some recognition.

Well ICS...
I have this sneaking (sickening) feeling that just when our attack will start to find some rhythm, our back-line will experience some sort of crisis (probably in the shape of injury to Agger). But with Carragher & Coats waiting on the wings, it's so comforting. Just wish we had a proper back-up for Enrique.
