Gabriel Obertan
Seem's like we are signing him next week for 3 million and i am not happy about this at all because everytime i have seen him he looks like average winger with no brain.
Anymore known on the lad from Ligue 1 watchers and Man Utd fans/watchers would be very much appreciated.

Re: Gabriel Obertan
Really? Havent seen anywhere this news completely out of the blue to the least.Does this mean Barton is off definitely now?
Only game i watched him play was a reserves game against Liverpool. He was pretty awful that match tbh.
Hopefully this is just paper talk for Newcastle sake.Replacing Barton with Oerton is just real drop in quality IMO.
Edit : But if he just a squad signing probably a decent signing considering the price.

I dont know tbh, he might just being bought for depth because it says we are in talks with Barnetta aswell and as i said before we have practically no right wingers in the whole squad.
But i am inclined to agree with you what little i have seen of him he does'nt impress me in the slightest.

Re: Gabriel Obertan
BBC's live text for today reported it, too, so this could really be happening.
Haven't been impressed by Obertan, either, but I guess £3m isn't that big a gamble.

If he is just a squad signing then a decent gamble considering the price. He certainly has some pace so might come good with regular football.
Also Sunderland has signed someone called James McClean from Derry in Ireland after missing out on N Zogbia for left wing.So probably some consolation

Re: Gabriel Obertan
Mole ,why would he be bought for depth ??
Its not like newcastle are competing for cl spot..
And its quite obvious from the fact that he is going to join newcastle because he would be getting game time..
He's still 22..So he would rather be a regular in the starting eleven and hone his skills than rot on the bench..And i think newcastle offers him that..

Well they need squad depth even i they are only playing in PL.Afterall they could easily play 50 games this season with decent cup runs.As for Oberton coming its better to be 2nd choice at Newcastle than 5th choice at United. He will play his fair share of games even if he is 2nd choice imo.

Re: Gabriel Obertan
So, like 5m in euros?
Decent price. From the times I've seen him play in the Carling and FA cup, he's pretty much a headless chicken and is taken off. Not Toon quality to me, but well, he's still very young.
But at least he adds to the FRENCH count, Mole.

Is Ashley on a misson to overtake Arsenal as the real French club in PL?

Re: Gabriel Obertan
I mentioned about this the other day.
I remember watching our reserves play against man Utd when Obertan played.
Bare in mind for reserve games we play our youth team, our defence was made up of 4 15 year olds, half his size and he did nothing against any of them.
IIRC he was playing as a forward in that game
If anything he was quite anonymous.
And McLean is not an alternative to Nzogbia

All I know is, he's bulked up quite a bit over preseason compared to the skinny little guy most of you saw last time... haven't actually seen him play with his new physique
3 million, if this is rue, it ain't that bad...

Re: Gabriel Obertan
you should go for some like postiga or saviola, but i dunno the chances of you getting them
in terms of winger you could even go for itrube on loan or something obertan seems like a lost cause

Wages would be too high, but a Saviola is exactly the type we are looking for. Along with a winger and a lb of course.

Re: Gabriel Obertan
saviola does not have big wages, it would be worth paying a little more then getting keirrison like you have been linked to
on the topic of wingers why the hell obertan there much better options available at that price imo. vereirinha pops up in my mind.

Does'nt he? i presumed he would ok then.
As for the better wingers comment, you are right this is what frustrates me with Newcastle everytime we take a couple of steps forward we tend to take 4 back
