Re: Deeper Midfield Role
Chances are either Frimpong will be used or Coquelin will be blooded into the team.
Which, I must say, is not ideal. I would prefer a much more experienced player as backup for Song, but at least Coquelin looks very capable after that loan at Lorient.

My money is on Frimpong being bloodied. He had that coming before Frimp's injury itself.

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
Players like Melo, Kompany, Lorik Cana and M'Vila would be great buys as you need a PURE DM who can break up attacks and protect you defensive line, particualrly form counter attacks. Out of those, however, Cana would be the cheapest as you could probably get him for under 10 million whereas Melo (arguably the best Juventus player this season) or M'Vila would cost you close to 15-20 mill, while Kompany is unlikely to transfer to a rival club.
From what I hear, this DM would not be assured of a starting spot and you also want to brood youngsters like Frimpong and Coquelin, thus Cana seems to be a ver feasible option. Added to the fact that he can also play as a 5th choice CB and has excellent leadership qualities and a fighting spirit (I think he's also an Arsenal fan), Cana would very well succed at Arsenal.

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
If what you're saying is true, then Cana does indeed seem to be a very likely option. Personally, I'm a fan of Cana so I'd love to see him here but the fact that his name hasn't been mentioned at all so far makes me think twice about getting my hopes up.
Lets wait and see, there isn't much else that we can do anyway

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
We where linked with Cana a few years ago. He ended up in Sunderland for 8m or some silly cheap price
Wenger probably didn't want him because he'd stunt Song's development, or because he's too manly for the team, but he's just what we need.

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
Cana would be a good addition, no doubt. But I see absolutely nothing to give us an inkling that we are even looking to strengthen this side of our team.. We are hearing a lot about defenders and attackers, but nothing, absolutely nothing, on the DM front! Not even the usual Melo stuff!!

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
lol @ the thought of a Lass - Song destroyer defensive midfield.
they would kill someone every match. we'd be much more intimidating....

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
gago isnt that bad to be a back up player imo,he was a starter for us not so long ago.
Re: Deeper Midfield Role
Took me sometime to hunt this up.. But I wanted to make sure I didn't post in some random thread about this specific topic..
What do you guys think about Frimpong and his chances and contribution this season? I think he is an ABSOLUTE BEAST! Needs experience, which will come with play.. But I won't mind rotating him with Song for smaller club matches.. Really..
What this also means, is that Coquelin (who can play DM or RB) and Bartley (DM or CB) will be farmed out again.. Since we have bought the very impressive Jenkinsson, and AW still seems to be looking to buy a CB.. What d'yall think?

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
Frimpong is way too inexperienced for this role, you need someone thats been around a little bit, what about Mariga who plays for Inter ?? we can do a loan deal then see what happens after. The guy is a a powerful beast a la viera

Re: Deeper Midfield Role
Tbh, a loan would do a world of good to Frimpong.. Coquelin had a good loan spell in France and should also look to gain some more experience this season.. I'm not sure what Bartley is going to do meanwhile though.. Then there is a question of Lansbury, who is supposedly a make weight, alongwith Miquel, in our bid for Cahill.. We are having quite a few young midfielders who are asking for some experience!!

I don't believe this Bolton want Miquel on loan thing, why would they want a young, weak, inexperienced centre half who he isn't even good enough for Arsenal. just don't make sense

Dunno if they want him, but they would need a defender if they sell Cahill.. And Miquel is pretty good man, not WC (yet) but good nonetheless.. For starters, Miquel >> Squillachi.. And he is the captain of the reserves too..

don't think he is good enough to play for us, i watched him last season when he played for the reserves and the youth. He is too slow too weak makes too many mistakes.
It was like watching a bad version of Djourou
