Galliani: The French will also overtake us Empty Galliani: The French will also overtake us

Post by zizzle Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:37 am

“Thanks to the new stadiums being built for Euro 2016, I predict that the French will also overtake us," the Rossoneri director and former Lega Calcio chief told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We could be competitive with equal factors and situations, but unfortunately that's not the case,” he continued.

"Spain has the advantage that they don't have collective TV rights, Germany have overtaken us thanks to the wonderful new stadiums they built for the World Cup in 2006.

"It's like theatres and restaurants. There are beautiful theatres and ugly ones, there are luxury restaurants and then pizzerias.

"But we can't do anything. Without stadiums we can't do anything and without a new law we can't construct new stadiums.

"Even the politicians have understood that, but the design of the law has remained blocked between the two branches of parliament."

With Italy's economy about to hit a mountain of sh*t, I don't see that stadium situation remarkably improving any time soon.

Italy's economy is not that bad. They just need to tweak it! Too bad people in the parliament are not getting around to doing that.

Their economy really is that bad.
Level of debt is something like 125% of Gross Domestic Product and they'd need strong economic growth to be able to reduce that debt, but the latest figures showed a non-existent growth of 0.1%. I'm afraid Italy's economy is heading the path of Greece, Portugal and Ireland. The same direction anyway.

I know, their condition now is bad. Their policies until now have been nothing short of horrendous thanks to the economically illiterate politicians that they have.

Privatization and liberalization of the economy will go a long way to restore growth in the country. They have the ingredients, some direction is all that is needed! Who will provide it is the question!

Spain have the advantage of no collective TV rights.

Advantage.

Anyone care to explain to me how the TV right thing, which harms all teams except for Real and Barca, is an advantage to La Liga? scratch

It's an advantage for the big teams and I guess that's what Galliani had in mind. Maybe he'd like to take TV money away from smaller Italian teams and give more to Milan...

The big teams give prestige to a league. If they can't compete with other leagues for players because they can't afford it, they are in disadvantage. Hence why la liga has an advantage on serie a...

You need to look into things a little deeper.

Italy has a public debt of about 120% but most of it is owed to Italians who earn interest that is reinvested in Italy.

As a comparison, the UK has an external debt (owed to foreigners) almost the size of that of the US which has an economy about 5 times the size of the UK's. Most of the interest paid goes to foreigners.

Italy has a personal savings rate of 6.8% of GDP (very high) Japan 3.3 and UK 2.5%, as a comparison. And the US is lower than that.

Italy has the fourth largest gold reserves in the world after the US Germany and the International Monetary Fund, and the most gold reserves per capita in the world.

I assume he is referring the the UEFA rankings. Valencia and whoever comes fourth every year also take part in the CL, so if they do badly because they dont have so much money, the league technically suffers in the rankings. Dont forget the EL too. The top two teams have more money, but everyone knows this is to a disadvantage of the league, not an advantage!

I'm talking in the long run.

Seriously Napoli? Inter and Milan, yeah, but Napoli?

Anyway Roma will start signing the big guys next season, methinks.

With an owner like De Laurentiis, Naples has the population to support a big team. The province has over 3 million people, so it's big. If De Laurentiis gets angry and sells the team, then Napoli will go back to Serie B or C.

The San Paolo was an 80,000 people stadium when Maradona played there!

I think it has been made smaller by making more comfortable seating.

dont underestimate Napoli, they have a very talented squad and an owner who doesnt seem to care much about his money, and like wiggles said, they have a huge fan base (4th biggest in Italy), a good stadium, and a history with Maradona in it

It is a law that gives municipalities the ability to block the building of private stadiums. The municipalities make most of the money (by renting the stadiums to the clubs) collected on game day, so they try to stop clubs from building their own stadiums.

Ah... Comunism For the win??

Gramsci won from the grave....

But seriously, municipalities have a profit renting the stadiums to the clubs?? In spain, the municipalities that rent stadiums actually lose money on the long run. It's a way to "subsidize" football clubs here, not to get a profit for municipalities.

yes, and for instance when we wanted to build a separate stadium for us, the milan city council or whoever it was blocked it. they blocked it because it would mean less money for them as we and milan pay to use the san siro.

the stadium was going to cost about 500m, and they said if we build one they will add some insane figure to prevent us from doing so, like 300m in tax making it 800m total... because it meant "loss of money for the city" or some garbage

Well, you have to look at it from the citizens of the city prospective. They built and maintained the stadiums through paying taxes, so they want to get their investment back. The trouble is the city is using the rent money from the clubs to do other things besides maintaining the stadium, like fixing roads, etc. So, the rent is too high so the teams lose money rather than make money on the stadium like they do in other countries. However, teams will be building stadiums, now that Juventus started and then the teams will be making more money from game day and everything will get better.

no disrespect dude but speak about what you know about

Huge difference between public debt and external debt, while UK has a huge external debt...its public debt is at just 76%, figure that will fall with the new government and austerity measures

a public debt of 118 like tht italy is unsustainable, add to that, that the government is currently unstable
