Those passes haven't anything to do with the end product. Like 3 thousand of those passes are sideways or backwards, anyways.

Not dissing Xavi here, but stats aren't everything.

Xavi isn't an AM and he isn't the playmaker, obviously he isn't going to have as many assists.

If there was a stat for third ball to target, Xavi would have the highest number. Also, it does not matter, since Xavi is responsible for the precious Barca possession, of which without Barca would not win as much.

It is ignorant to compare the two players stat wise, and pulling out different goal and assisst stats for the two shows little understanding of the game.

Not entirely true, the possession game is a team effort it's down to a collective of pressure and passing through out the 11 players.... Pique and Busquet's are arguably just as important.

Thiago for example at 95% success rate out of over 100 passes against Bayern or Man Utd cant remember witch which show's as long as another playmaker is there to take Xavi's place it does'nt effect there possession game all that much.

I agree Xavi is probably the most important as far as winning goes but i dont agree he is responsible for the possession game.

He make's it better but i dont agree it would totally crumble without him because as i said its a team thing.

the role of the playmaker is to set the tempo, he not only does that but he organizes the play and direct the game.

Yes, but the regista is rarely used in England, and the playmakers there are usually traditional playmakers, which was LM argument, if you bothered to actually read it.

Also, as in the article, the regista is not a playmaker in the direct sense, but is more of playconducter than maker.
