Barcelona close the 2010-11 season with a loss of 9.3 million....
Despite winning the UCL, the La Liga and getting one of the biggest shirt sponsorships in football history they are still €363m in debt....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Google translated:
Barcelona closed the 2010-11 season with a loss of 9.3 million euros, according to the Catalan club following a meeting of the Board to sign the settlement of the past fiscal year.
Barca said in a statement that the casualties of some of their players (Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Dmytro Chygrynskiy and Martin Caceres) the club has generated a loss of 44.2 million euros, in addition to "adjust to 1.7 million down the value of the Brazilian player Adriano Buss Henrique "(provided by the fourth time, the Brazilian Palmeiras).
The Barcelona board understands that without these losses the year 2010-11 it "would have ended with 33.5 million euros in profit before taxes."
Barca said it has reduced the expected loss, which was quantified at 21.4 million euros, the partners presented to commissioners last year.
It has been possible because the club closed the year with 473.4 million euros in revenues (53.2 million above the budget), which means an increase of 14% for the year 2009-10, thanks to the income from UEFA, international sponsorship and ticket sales at the Camp Nou.
Operating expenses have reached 472.6 million euros, an increase of 44.5 million euros over the budgeted amount. This increase was due in part to pay the players for the variable titles.
Barca have also reported it has had net financial expenses cover a total of 13.2 million euros, while revenue from corporate income tax amounted to EUR 3.1 million.
Finally, Barcelona said it has reduced debt by 15.5% of the entity, and that goes from 430.6 to 363,700,000 euros.

they still reduced their debt => Less interest, plus im not sure the Qatar foundation deal is accounted for this season
add to that they reduced their losses from last year (i think) so all and all it was a step in the right direction for Barca
unfortunately that is

This is already in the Barcelona section, no need to take it and repeat the thread here.
Anyway, the loss was half of what was expected and it was a generally good outcome all in all.

They received €15m last season from the Qatar foundation plus bonuses for trophies. But the actual formalised agreement will began on the 1st of July this financial year.
They only reduced their total debt by €67m all things considered that is pretty terrible

Key Financials:
Year end: 9.3M loss
Board's expected loss: 21.4M
Revenues:
473M (53.2M more than in the previous year, which represents a 14%
increase) - would be higher but sold players have depreciated in value
Business
expenses*: 472.6M (44.5 more than in the previous year, which
represents a 10.4% increase) - the increase is largely because of title
bonuses
Total debt: 363.7M (66.9M less, which represents a 15.5% decrease)
'Financial expenses' (interest expense?) - 13.2M
Taxes paid: 3.1M
All
in all very positive considering last year the loss was at around 70M.
Also the actual loss was only half of the expected loss so that is
another very positive thing to take from this. The bad: still in the
negative.
* Not sure if this is the correct term, the
spanish term is 'gastos de explotacion' and since I've learned
financials at an american university my guess is as good as yours, but
this was the most popular translation google turned up, I'd prefer to
look at a balance sheet & income statement whenever those become
available. I think this is probably the sum of all expenses, cost of
goods sold, and probably interest too, since it seems like a large
number for it not to given that the loss is only 10M apart from
that
Nice try troll. What's that quote you always use?

How am I trolling?
I think its pretty terrible that the "best team in the world" and currently the most successful in the last 5 or so years has reported back to back losses the last two financial years.
Just wanted the opinion of everyone else.
Love how all the Barcelona fans get all butt hurt and defensive whenever anyone posts a thread about their team lmao

It's trolling because you're presenting the scenario in such a way that you omit all the positive interpretations of this and only focus on the negative, with the clear intention of taking a stab at Barcelona and getting a rise out of the fans.
For your information, most people would call going from a 74M loss to 9M, or decreasing the losses by 87%, in a single year a success. Most clubs are not profitable, so for a club that makes revenues of over 400M per year this is, as bhends noted, pocket change. This is true especially considering the success the team has had, which is actually a detriment to the profits because of the large trophy bonuses the current squad has. Although I guess I shouldn't blame a Madrid fan for forgetting this last part, you guys haven't won the big one in a while.

No matter how much you want to polish it showing a loss for a company that big and successful is not only frightening but very poor.
I just wanted the opinion of other people here. If not for Qatar Barcelona would be up that ol creek without a paddle if you get my drift.
Reducing debt is one thing but a loss is still a loss. How is that possible with Barcelona being as big as it is at the moment?
Taking cheap shots because you can't handle the truth is pretty lame, but I can understand your jealousy. I mean we spend more than you, win less and yet have a substantially better return than you. Must hurt.
Now imagine if you guys stop winning......then your going to have a lot of problems......

Re: Barcelona close the 2010-11 season with a loss of 9.3 million....
I disagree that if we stop winning we're going to be in a tough place, because if we stop winning then we wouldn't have to pay those bonuses (which account for something ridiculous like 30-40M). So say we had made the CL semis or final but didn't win this year, as is expected of this Barca team, we would still have received lot of CL revenue from it but we would have finished with a 20M profit. If anything, losing (but getting far) is the best method financially.
Of course, in the end this is a sports team, and the best way to judge a sports team is by amount of trophies won. Which is why a loss is perfectly justifiable so long as the team wins. The moral of the story? Let's not lose sight of what a sports team is supposed to do, trophies come first, money is secondary

A Madrid fan will obviously see it that way because finances are the only place where they are topping everyone, including Man United in terms of profit!
It is natural that Crimson will want to highlight how "poorly" we are run.
