Re: The US Politics Thread
The online response to this has been quite interesting. It feels like there is finally something everyone can agree on - being fed up with the healthcare system and billionaires getting richer while we all go into medical debt

Trying his hardest to go down as the worst president in history.
This pardon doesn't stand out as that egregious even when compared to his predecessor. Trump not only pardoned family members as well, but he also pardoned a bunch of Blackwater war criminals who murdered civilians in Iraq.

The pardon itself does not bother me at all, it's the fact that Democrats and Biden himself repeatedly used to take the moral high ground on presidential pardons. well now everyone knows they're no different than Republicans.

Left is losing voters to populism (care little about party but focus on platform that impacts their lives; not ideologues) which is why the popular vote went the other way. Need to kick establishment to the curb.

This was eye-opening.
Quite the infighting in Twitter right now.
Elon realizing the white nationalist Republican base are at odds with his personal ideology while right wingers find out profit-maximizing billionaires are not their friends.

I actually wish Elon was pro immigration as he likes to pretend but he is not. he just wants cheap labour.

The job market sucks. Sending out resume's is a waste of time anyhow. Networking gets you jobs nowadays.
Elon wants to pay people poverty wages. Simple as. Also, H1B is exploitative in nature.

MAGA voted for Trump so that an Indian can tell them they are retarded. Biggest plot twist of the decade?
Reality is they want cheap labor and a compliant workforce on visas. It's silly to believe billionaires care about anything other than maximizing profit

Massive props tbh. They are not afraid to say the hard things, whether people like it or not. Minimal diplomacy, no political bullshit, just the hard truth.
Unfortunately the people are so used to being weaseled through the media that they can not comprehend.

He wrote a bunch of paragraphs just to basically say nerds are what makes America great, so insightful.
“Normalcy” doesn’t cut it in a hyper-competitive global market for technical talent. And if we pretend like it does, we’ll have our asses handed to us by China.
Btw i have a problem with this line, why is it so necessary that we always have to remain "hyper-competitive" as a society? yes China is ambitious and is always looking to eclipse US economically, but i'm not sure it's worth it if the price of staying competitive is to import unlimited amount of skilled immigrants into your country and alienate your native population in the process. this is why i hate capitalism so much, it reduces humans into resources that needs to exploited to the max for the great cause of infinite growth.

The irony of Vivek's post is that his wrong analysis of how American culture is broken illustrates in itself how American culture is broken.

It's a ploy for cheap labor. Simple as. Tech is already crazy oversaturated. I'm only getting interviews because of my connections and networking skills. Irregardless, I'm okay with continuing to improve my development skills, but to say we don't have talent in this country because a couple morons talk about culture war issues is bs. You're going to tell me graduates from MIT, etc, top schools aren't talented? Nonsense. Don't be fooled Myestats. Yes there are a lot of mediocre engineers but there are a lot willing to prove themselves in the right environment with a solid github and School/GPA. I'm currently on honor roll, got my associates, going for my bachelors in computer science. I'm not saying I'm some rockstar but I'd like to think my country would invest in me over someone they H1B sponsor for cheap labor and working them to death with 80 hour work weeks.

Yep I know there is enough talent as is, the main reason this is happening is because the median tech salary is 2x higher than H1B salary.
But there is some truth to the cultural and educational aspects too, but I agree it's not the primary reason as Vivek tries to paint it.
They just can't stand paying livable wages can't they. Every system has its flaw, China is also exploiting its workers. @Pedram whoever wins the race to space will rule the world, they will do it at any human cost.

In 2016 Trump said the H-1B program “shouldn’t exist” because it is “very unfair for (American) workers.”
— Nicholas J. Fuentes (@NickJFuentes) December 28, 2024
Now in 2024, under the influence of Silicon Valley donors, Trump says he used and supports H-1B.
This is the definition of selling out.

Re: The US Politics Thread
He's basically saying that parents that push their kids to spend 100% of their time on school and extra curriculars are the reason these kids are successful. And fair enough, it does get them into good schools and good jobs.
But it also doesn't teach them how to be part of a team, how to talk to the opposite gender, how to talk in general. The kids I've met that grew up like this are anxious messes. They might be good for stand alone engineering work, but they won't have the skills to actually found a company, find a partner or make friends.
They then get resentful and grow up to be tech right incels No big surprise on why Vivek sees himself in them.

the "nerds" always had a chip on their shoulder about something and a weird superiority complex. they would study for 83 hours for a test, score one point higher than some chad, and didn't understand why stacy wouldn't date them as they believe they were "clearly better."
