Yeah he’s shit in the air for his size. I mean putting an oaf up top can be useful when you’re chasing a lead or up against a team who is parking the bus. But I saw him play as a #10 today too. Laughing

He has no business being a starter and I suspect that United will make a big money signing for that position this summer anyways.

my captain

never injured, plays 90 mins every game, has a tendency to do fancy shit when he shouldnt but that's my only criticism, wish he would find some goalscoring form again but not too bothered if he doesnt, best captain we've had in a long time

What the hell does Weghourst offer to this team, though? I've tried to analyze exactly what his strengths are, but I have absolutely no clue.

Its a divisive opinion but I feel is he is a Very important player for us right now and one of the reasons why we are looking so fluent attacking wise in recent games. There are quite a few youtube videos too I think analyzing his recent displays and how he is affecting games even without scoring goals. His all round play for a guy his size is pretty decent. His passing is underrated and can hold off the ball and draw defenders to him making space for especially rashford to go on those bulldozing runs. Look at the 1st and 3rd goals we scored against Leicester for example. He is way better than Fellaini btw whose only quality was elite chest control. Wout has insane work rate. I mean the guy even tracks back and is playing DM during games sometimes lol. The rest of the players I think too acknowledge his work and thats why everyone is wanting him to score. But yea his finishing and composure are pretty shit.

He definitely wont be retained I think next season but a similar player like him who can also score goals, Ten Hag will appreciate a lot actually. Someone like Toney or Harry Kane even for that matter.

The way I see it, your attacking fluency, as well as your defensive assuredness started when Casemiro was introduced to the team. Against Leicester, you were lucky not to concede at least 2 goals. They looked like the team that was more likely to score for majority of the match, and dominated possession in the first half. But they wasted every single opportunity they created, including two 1v1s against De Gea.

On the other end, Rashford used his speed to get behind their defense and was clinical with his chances. When Sancho scored, Leicester had already given up. I can't tell that Weghourst did any of the things you claim in that particular match. I haven't paid as much attention to him in others.

Well Casemiro wasnt playing vs Leicester was he? Leicester had a good spell of about 20 mins when yea they should have scored even more than 1 and that came mostly because that Garnacho kid is not yet ready to be starting games. They were finding joy through his side. Anyway after we scored it was all United especially that second half was vintage Ten Hag ball. So I dont know how you can say they were likely to score for majority of the match.
Coming back to Weghorst yea I urge you to pay more attention to him. I am sure since he began starting games, our chances created stats have gone up. Us scoring 2 goals now on an average instead of 1 in itself is proof I think.

Yeah, that was a brain fart. I meant the first half, not the entire match. You barely created anything in the first half, you were just ruthlessly effective with what you did create. I'll try to pay more attention to Weghourst again in the next match, but I can't say that I see what you're seeing in him so far.

Trust me I am not the only one. I have read people giving him man of the match for his performance vs Leicester. Initially I was also in the he is a useless lump camp, but only when others started pointing it out, I started to realize he is a lot more than that.

Ten Hag is making do with whatever he has got as his Ronaldo replacement. Martial is more like a fifa concept card these days so Weghorst was put in the starting 11 straight. He was actually quite poor when played as the most advanced player, only when he was put as a hybrid 10 half 9 role with Rashford above him, he is effecting games.

What I am trying to say is he is a really shit footballer, lower league level yes, but good coaches can limit drawbacks and maximize strengths of their players. And we have seen that happening many times with many limited footballers. The moment they go to a different system with a coach who knows not to use them, their weaknesses get exposed. Imagine Weghorst under Solskjaer drunken
Anyway right now, he has his uses but he can definitely be improved upon in the summer.

Well duh obviously :coffee:
Considering the players and dressing room he got and considering the drama/issues he had to face and is still facing, if he wins the league, who else will be better. Farteta? Razz

you don't become best coach in the world with one league win, that's literal fickle Gen Z logic.
And what drama issues is he still facing?

Yea Greenwood. It hasnt really gone off. But I can feel it going off soon. Murmurs have already begun in the media and among the fans. Players are also split it seems. Could be a major distraction, even bigger than the Ronaldo one probably.

so nothing... just handle Greenwood's situation swiftly behind closed doors and don't make it into a thing. There's really no need for it to become a bigger issue than Ronaldo.

Why on earth has Pickford signed a new deal with Everton? How can the England #1 be playing for relegation candidates?

Everton seem safe from relegation though, leeds, southampton and bournemouth got that locked

Btw is this the worst top 4 fight in recent history? Newcastle vs spurs is so very meh

Newcastle haven't won in their last 4 matches. They drew against Bournemouth and recently lost to Liverpool. Will this be the match where they turn things around? hmm

I'm not so sure about that. Leeds seem to have picked up some form since the arrival of Weston Mckennie. Results haven't gone their way, but they're playing better in general.

Game in hand solidified. Moving Trossard into the false 9 position has been a breath of fresh air for our attack. Glad Arteta saw the light on that and didn't take too long to pull the trigger.
