After Messi's goal the team looked much more relaxed and confident. They were too tense before, let's if they carry the confidence to the next matches.

In general it seems like Arg players all declined in form since last season. Bad timing for the WC but they can still click into place. In the end what matters is getting out of the groups, and then a new tournament starts.

It wasn't just that, they were playing with too much tension, not enjoying it at all. Understandably as they were a goal from being out of the group stages. The pressure was getting to them too much. Messi's goal and the change in midfield turned the team completely.

Lo Celso, Paredes, and De Paul when they were all fit and in form made a completely different team.

Lo Celso is really missed. Either Paredes plays like a proper player or Scaloni relies more on this kid from Benfica. Imo today's midfield lacks too much creativity. De Paul looks nothing like his previous self. Maybe more Papu is the answer.

How is Dybala's health? he would have been a player for last night to help Messi unlock defenses.

yea i was thinking why don't they play Dymbo on the left for more creativity.

Iirc he was injured towards the break for Roma, but since he is there I figure he can play.

Penalties are ruining football. Absolutely ridiculous to give penalty to Argentina for that. Fortunately Sczesny saved it (again), but there are way too many penalties in football.

Not if they play like that, Poland actually counter attacked with numbers against Saudi and Saudi was impotent. Poland are going to concede in the second half if it goes like the first.

No interests in having the ball or counter attacking.
And it's not even that it's good defensive football either, there's zero press. They just let Argentina get into their final third and wait for the attack to play out.
It's literally just stick 10 men behind the ball and hoof it up to the CF & hope the opposition fail.
It's more crude than even the most crude anti football tactics. It's not even like they're good on set pieces where they should have the advantage either.
Stoke on a cold night are 1982 Brazil compared to this Poland team.

Messi's biggest weakness has always been penalties... i'm never as confident when he steps in comparison to Ronaldo or Harry Kane for instance...

106 scored, 31 missed in his career... that's a lot imo. Though a 77.4% success rate is within standard rate for penalties scored, but for his talent and technique he should be around 85%.

No his biggest weakness is a weak mentality, which plays out in penalties, on the international stage and other pressure moments. He's not a Henry or Zlatan tier bottler but not good enough and It's why he will never truly be GOAT despite being the best club player ever.

Argentina are playing the best attacking football they've played all tournament thus far, but Poland's defence is actually solid. There hasn't been a lot of breakdowns. Argentina need to move the ball quicker from side to side so they can open space and cause breakdowns in the middle of the final third.

i wouldn't call it a weak mentality, a player who has made it to his level in his career can never be labeled as having a weak mentality... but yea his mentality and attitude in those instances are definitely not as assertive and brazen as Ronaldo.

nobody can be perfect though, i don't think such a small weakness eliminates him from being the GOAT lol
