Benzema is going the same way as Kroos. He just doesn't have the legs anymore.

It's 2023 and we are still starting Kroos and Modric together :facepalm:

Barca are shit and so are we. Can this season just end so that we can start afresh and move on from our veterans. I am so tired of their slow possession shit. We don't get anywhere with that shit

Haaland where are you.......we have 0 players making runs, it's embarrassing.

To me, the problem wasn't Benzema. The issue was twofold:
- Absolutely nobody breaking lines in the midfield
- Benzema was literally the only person in the box... surrounded.

We need Rodrygo to start. Go to a 442 diamond.

Why is Tchouameni being ostracized?

Carlo first 11 and sub timing were horrendous. This one's on him.

Everyone knows Kroos and Modric can't start together anymore.

Benzema is older and a bit burnt out. Still extremely good... but can't expect to carry all the scoring load anymore. Heck, we didn't even ask that of CR7. He always had 2 of Benzema, Bale, Higuain, Di Maria, etc. to help him.

Understood that we can't just go buy whomever we want anymore... but there is a Kolo Muani out there that's very good although not a superstar. Someone like that.

We need to accept that players age lol

I also think that Carlo is a CL exit before the semi-finals away from getting fired assuming Barca beat us in CDR.

La Liga was already over so this result is practically meaningless

The way we play is horrible, slow, uninspiring. If we win another CL the club will hand out one year contracts to our vets again, sign fran and promote tobias and alvaro and close the market.

I also like the fact that whichever LB plays with Vini is screwed because the guy never passes or acknowledges the LB. But Mendy is the problem for everyone here hmm

There was a particular play where Cama is free for the pass as Vini was under pressure. The absolutely sensible play (to me, the only play) was to pass to Cama and restart. Vini decides to hold the ball way too long and at the very last minute, "attempts" to pass out (to no one in particular) and we lost possession.

Vini is many things positive but the lad still lacks that in-game decision making. Big time.

This midfield is as slow as the CKM midfield, feck me.

This team does not fill me with confidence in defence. Always someone sleeping or makes a blunder. Militao is keeping it together with sellotape.

In attack we leave our attackers out to dry. If Vini or Benz aren't scoring out of their asses we create absolutely nothing. Kroos and Modric prefer to pass the ball around from side to side as if that will create goalscoring opportunities.

We need to move on from Kroos ASAP and reduce Modric' minutes significantly.

I want to see Camavinga as a CDM. Tcho just doesn't fill me with confidence defensively. He's probably better as a CM.

If Asensio accepts the clubs offer I'd keep him. He can score goals so could be useful in LaLiga, but not in CL!

Y'all fools dead or what? We comfortably bested our great rivals liverpool. The best England has to offer. After this game, I'd say our only real threat left in the cl is.... bayern. The rest are a joke or a pretender. If there is a dark horse, I'd say one of napoli or benfica. The rest we should beat more comfortably than against liverpool.

Make no mistake. Liverpool are on the downward trend but even at their worst they're still the strongest team in England. If we could handle this Liverpool team as well as we have and repeat the performance against the remaining teams in the cl, it's kroos kontrol to the 15th cl.

I fully trust Carlo to ensure we maintain our power grip on cl football. And let it known that today, nacho and camavinga are the players to be singled out for praise if we were to praise anyone in particular. I hope this performance is the start of the norm for camavinga as we need him at this level of we are to dominate lesser fools. Nacho showing his quality always pleases me. Quedate nacho.

It was a professional performance. Liverpool are always known as the mentality monsters but never seen a team give up like them other than QSG against us. It is always the same.

I fancy us against any of the remaining teams. But naturally would like a favourable draw obviously.

We need the old Benz back. He might score goals but he does very little right apart from that.

Camavinga though.....what a talent. Tcho better watch out!!

League performance != CL performance. If you are a Real Madrid fan, you should know this by heart by now. If the opposite is true, then tell me: how many cls has PSG won in the past 5 years? Juventus? Manchester City? All three have one thing in common: pretenders at best. A joke or a "tinpot club" at worst. It takes much more than signing top forwards to win cl. PSG is proof of that. Tarnish not their pathetic struggle just trying to win 1 cl since the start of the quatar takeover. They legit got the best Frontline on paper. But games aren't won on paper. It's won with tactics, grit, and soul.

PSG are soulless and look where their joke efforts got them. Mancity no matter how hard that hipster tries, is no different than psg. If they don't face us, one of bayern or perhaps napoli is enough to dispose of City. I have no concern over City or Chelsea. Just like last season I'll repeat what i said back then: hope we draw city. Would like an easy path towards semis.

Good performances by Cama and Rudiger

Tie was settled in Anfield. Given our record of having our opponents come back from seemingly insurmountable leads, it felt great that we at least got the job done.

I feel CL this year is wide open. There are no clear cut winners this year, and I have confidence we can take on anyone this year in CL.

Damn shame that we had the capabillites to go for the treble if Perez focused on reinforcements instead of 16 yr old brazilians and the superleague

I agree partially with Turok!

We are or should be favorites from here on in. This year’s team is stronger than last years and has more depth. However it also has shown to have weaknesses at any time so we can’t be over confident.

I feel the only teams that will be difficult for us are Bayern and City. Turok is erroneously discounting City. Pep still has issues, but with Haaland this year’s team is much stronger than in other years and the only teams that will be difficult for them are Bayern and Madrid.

So let’s wait for tomorrow’s draw, hoping we can avoid City and Bayern, before we get too excited!

Shutting down haaland should be no problem. Liverpool did it. Who says we can't do the same? We got a better backline and midfield than liverpool.

Chelsea eh? Seems bayern got the honor to dunk city out of cl. GL to them. I expect us to crush Chelsea but if we come overconfident on matchday, we will embarrass ourselves.

But enough of that for now... we have a clasico coming up.

Bill what's the word on the scandal? I always knew Barcelona were cheaters but I thought that was my paranoia talking.

Every so often Kroos/Modric roll back the years and are afforded another 20 starts together before they semi lose their spots and get back in again after one or two bad results. It's like clockwork.

When Barca were doing their cross and insha'Allah they had at least 3/4 players in the box. When we cross we'd be lucky if Benzema is in there.

Then reports come out saying "well we wanted to get a rb but all our targets are gone"
No one in our board did a God damn thing when Cancelo or gusto or Porro were available CHEAP. "No were okay with 300 yr old Carvajal And a makeshift RB" Carvajal getting washed and ofc doing something stupid for Barcas winning goal was it for me. Put that video on reply and have Perez watch it until he finally makes a RB signing

At this point no one can defend Perez or the board. We've been needing reinforcements and signings in CRITICAL areas but Perez is focused on 16 yr old Brazilians and the superleague. We've been needing to TRANSITION ACTUALLY TRANSITION from the old guard to the new generation but Perez is too stubborn for any changes

Our summer will literally be promoting Arribas, Tobias and Alvaro. Sign Fran, extend Brahim and sign Modric Kroos Benz Carvajal Mendy Nacho on 1 year extensions because "we need to save the money on Mbappe" if this happens we gotta plan our mutiny or something to get him out

I'll HAPPILY accept 2 transitional seasons of not winning anything if it means 8 years of dominance

Carlo is lucky the league was finished before the match started. I'll give him the CDR clasico to redeem himself but who am I kidding? He'll start the same 11 with 0 tactics and by then he'll be out of 2 competitions thanks to his and Perez decisions

You can blame Perez all you like but he got Zidane a LB when we already had one who was doing really well for us. He got Zidane Hazard desite our club never having serious interest in him. He got Tchouameni who is being terribly coached on his defensive positioning. He got Rudiger who has been decent. We are now in for Bellingham and offered 200 ME for Mbapay.

Perez is doing his part. When Zidane benched Marcelo Perez didn't say a thing. When Mourinho benched Iker, Perez didn't say a thing. He wouldn't say anything if Carlo benched Kroos/Modric/Dani etc. Carlo wanted attackers but the club told him to utilise the players at his disposal because what's the point if this new attacker will only get 5 minutes here or there with Carlo prefering crooked Benzema instead.

Yes we need new players but we don't have unlimited money. We have to start trusting our youth. Tobias hasn't had a single minute even in the CDR, Arribas is dominating for Castilla but hasn't had a single minute for Carlo after playing alot for ZZ.

There are 6 or so contracts that expire this summer. I'd only renew Modric, Ceballos and Nacho.

We need two new fullbacks but the LB spot is more critical because that's were our threat comes from. Also we desperately need a new RW. I am seeing alarming news that we want to bring Diaz back for that spot. Boy isn't even better than Asensio. We'll shoehorn Valverde there in yet another season because the alternatives are so bad.

To debunk some factual mistakes...

Hazard was already signed with Real Madrid before Zidane returned in 2019. You can't say that Real Madrid expected Lopotegui (and then Solari) to get fired and signed Hazard while awaiting Zidane. That would be ridiculous.

Also, Zidane recommended Hazard... when he was with Lille. He wanted us to buy him then. His job at Real Madrid at the time was to make player recommendations from France and Italy.

And no, Perez is not doing his part. There are other players in between Haaland/Mbappe... to toddlers from Brazil. For example (because I follow home), Kolo Muani would be a nice signing. Not a superstar by any means. But checks a lot of boxes we need in that support role on the attack AND is very good. Players like that.
