House of the Dragon || HBO
Deserves its own thread separate from the GOT one.
My crazy ass listened to the World of Ice and Fire as well as Fire and Blood alongside reading the Silmarillion ahead of Rings of Power. Now I feel like I know too much, but oh well.

2 very solid episodes so far.
It doesn't quite feel like GoT yet to me, but it's getting there.

I'm loving it so far. Next episode looks to be more actiony. Dig the Eldritchian horror vibe from the Crabfeeder. Its what we should have gotten from Euron.

Loved that episode. Agree on the crab feeders.
Rhaenyra (is that how it's spelled), Daemon and Vyserys are great characters. The rest still need to grow on me.

The one criticism that I have for the show right now (it could change in the upcoming episodes) is that there are a lot of characters who are serious & badass but none like Robert Baratheon messing with his squire or Tyrion slapping Joffrey or Bronn being Bronn. GoT was a serious success because it was also at times hilarious and that's missing here so far.

Re: House of the Dragon || HBO
Yeah, I think that's what's missing for me. GoT was full of just unpredictably, random scenes of hilarity and wry irony. That's needed to balance some of the brutality that we see.
I hope HoTD finds its levity though given the material its covering, it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't. This won't make it a bad show at all, but it won't quite be on par with the best seasons of GoT either.
The show could really use someone who provides some comedic relief.

My biggest criticism is Mysaria's accent...
Seriously, she was fine the first episode. This episode she sounded like a discount Shae.

Re: House of the Dragon || HBO
Watched 3 episodes couldn't get into it.
The show is relying on the backbone of the lore and universe to carry it and then the most boring house in the entire show, Targyreans.
GoT has a history of fan service that isn't subtle by any means and this entire show so far has the appeal that "Oh my god dragons...." and using those beautifully crafted CGI pieces as the punchline for it.
The characters and all are interesting but the actual plot is not very good, simply put.
All in all if it makes sense, the show just takes itself too seriously, buying into its own hype. Why it feels so without spirit.

I feel like a lot of those accents from the Free Cities / Essos are designed to sound just default "foreign". It's like they tried to frankenstein multiple exotic sounding accents into one and it's always sounded really off to me.

I think it's the tricky problem of adapting lore of an already established universe with a massive fanbase. I think Rings of Power and Wheel of Time, to a bigger extent in the latter's case, will and have run into this same issue. When we already know how things turn out, it's a little tougher for the show to really wow us. Everything just kinda looks a little less spectacular.
With GoT, many of us (myself included) had not read the books when the show came out. I don't think all of the books were even written when the pilot episode aired. So that created a level of unpredictability that just catapulted it into the juggernaut it became. It's something I think can be really tough to replicate successfully, especially for shows based in the same world.

I very much appreciate this post for giving me a new light how to look at such a situation. Nothing more to add.
But it resonates perfectly upon reflection. Very good points.

For me the Targaryens are the most interesting house so it's good to see more of them. I do want to see more of other house and characters though. I like that we are seeing Velaryons more, and I guess Hightower. Same for that Dondarrion knight. I would like the show to zoom out a little bit more to other places, I was happy to see Dragonstone.
Then again we are only on episode 2 of season one

Re: House of the Dragon || HBO
I think if this show was based on "The World of Ice and Fire", we absolutely would see more of the other houses as they all have some absolutely fantastic lore surrounding them.
Since this is based only on "Fire and Blood" though, this is going to be very Targaryen-centric.
It's unfortunate as HBO did have a show lined up that took place thousands of years before The Conquest, meaning we would've seen perhaps the Andals, The First Men, The Rhoynar and other mythical people who went on to found the Great Houses. HBO decided not to go forward with that show though.

I would have loved to see a show about Valyria tbh. Jorah and Tyrion sailing through the ruins and talking about Valyria is one of my favorite scenes in GoT.

Agreed, more Houses will obviously join in the chaos once the conflict starts. Just like the first half of the GoT season was a Starks vs Lannisters conflict before it suddenly involved everyone. The Starks though are probably not that involved because they are so far away and don‘t care for the „Game of Thrones“ as much as other houses.

Re: House of the Dragon || HBO
Outside of the Dornish, the North was among the toughest regions for Aegon to conquer. They put up a hell of a fight, but the dragons made the difference. The Starks take pride in that, even when bending the knee.

Ep 3 was incredible but I didn’t like the final set piece. Visually spectacular but completely illogical. Reminded me of the later seasons of GOT.

Yeah I supposed I wasn't as blown away by this episode as many were. It went for epic and mostly succeeded, but not enough for me to think it was.
Matt Smith is carrying this show on his back though. Was excellent in this episode with so few lines.

- Episode 4:
That Blackwood kid got that dawg in him. Handled that Bracken chud with the quickness.
Daemon and Rhaenyra in the pleasure house was always going to be a recipe for disaster though her being with Criston Cole is just as dangerous, for him more than her naturally. I don't envy Viserys though it took him far too long to realize Otto's machinations. I predict Larys Strong will be the next Hand. He's given the King rather good counsel thus far.
Good episode overall.

Was genuinely uncomfortable with that Rhaenyra - Cole scene. If the genders were switched I think there would be a lot more outcry about it.

The whole episode was uncomfortable. The previous scene between Rhaenyra and Daemon. Daemon in the throne room. Vyserys and Alissane. The kid. Etc.
Maybe the best episode so far. The direction was fantastic.
