Not just Madrid, every fan base. Agreed re Ramos except for about 3 years total. Casemiro was a legit good DM. Not as great as Madrid fans made him out to be…. But very good.

I don't think its because he doesn't rate him, but there has been some falling out.

Pep said 2 months back that some players have gotten too comfortable and didn't have the desire and hunger to compete and felt they deserve to start on merit, a lot of people highlighted Cancelo and Foden, being the main two he referred to. Who have been largely benched this season.

Pep had a go at Cancelo after the Fulham game when he got red carded, it was a similar situation against Liverpool When Salah scored the winner, were he has been constantly making these errors and poor judgement.

Ake and emergency of Rico Lewis has seen him full further down the pecking order. A lot of City players whenever they speak about Cancelo they've always mentioned he is really moody, bad tempered & explosive type of guy, on reddit some Benfica fans said this was true since this is how he has been described in Portugal as well, ever since his mom passed some say he got worse in those department.

Funny thing is a guy in Bluemoon mentioned that he worked at City and after the game against Spurs, Cancelo was heard yelling into his phone saying "Get me out of this f*** club." Which is why its happening this late into the window.

Further more Cancelo hasn't played since then and Pep has aimed some shots his way. He also said after the win against Arsenal everyone in the back is happy with Ake expect for one person Laughing There is also some talks that some level of management and players have also had issue with him.

He obviously rates him, but thinks he's a problem in the dressing room with his allegedly lax behavior. Sending a message to the rest of them that they better shape up.

Post by Thimmy Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:34 pm

Like with a lot of modern fullbacks, I don't think Cancelo's ever been particularly good defensively, and he seems prone to making mistakes when he's not simply expressing his offensive creativity. He occasionally more than makes up for that by being really good offensively.

And that's all well and good when City are cruising past the opponent team by controlling the game and keeping the ball out of their own half. They aren't reliant on his defensive contributions then. But he looks really bad when they don't control games and he's not allowed to push further up the pitch, which has been quite a common scenario in recent months.

I'm not familiar with how he performed at Juventus, but I do recall reading that some Juve supporters on here were not very happy with what he was offering for them. I get the impression that, like Jadon Sancho, he just needs creative freedom and no defensive obligations in order to show the positive sides to his game. And that may sound simple enough, but teams can't always afford to allow a single player that amount of luxury. It may work for Pep's teams when they are dominating possession, but not with the degree of complacency that seems to be present in the team these days.

They also have Nkunku for next season drunken Will probably go for a striker and a goalkeeper too in the summer.

I do hope we manage to catch some of their highly rated youth prospects when they inevitably get pissed off because of players with 8 and 10 year contracts blocking their way Laughing and start to scatter in all directions.

Jorginho - from deserving BdO to offloaded to Arsenal? Haven't really kept up with his career but it seems an odd move to strengthen a future rival like that

meh, it's more strengthening our depth rather than making us significantly better. I can see the reasoning from both clubs... For Chelsea they wanna offload wages and open squad space for the numerous players they still want to overpay for.

Jorginho hasn't kept up the same level from the Euros season, plus lots of instability in Chelsea's midfield. But his winning experience and smarts will help a lot in this title push if either Partey or Xhaka gets injured.

His contract expires in the summer, i still think he is a fantastic midfielder. Kante has not played since August, and Kovacic has been in and out of the lineup. Been asked to do a lot, and Potter tactics is quite trash tbh.

He is a net positive for Arsenal.

Mudrik has elite speed in combination with skills, can’t teach that. There is a lot of add on bonus, honestly his price is not ridiculous when you consider that.

Enzo is overrated? I don’t know much about him.

120M sounds overpriced, but I think Chelsea fans will quickly forget it. He's going to be their midfield leader for years. Modric-esque transformative midfielder.

He's very press resistant, his passing range is ridiculous meaning he can switch the ball from flank to flank. He's a very progressive passer as he looks for forward options and isn't simply passing it sideways. He's a high volume passer evidenced by him having 90+ passes per game on average with Benfica. This shows he has the personality and courage to pick up the ball and not hide away from it.

Defensively he has a great engine, good athlete, and is willing to dive into the tackles. He's also a threat from long-range shooting distances as his ball striking technique is beautiful. He plays two touches and moves the ball quick. He can play as a lone DM, double pivot, or as a CM in a 4-3-3.

Positionally I'm quite curious to see where he plays. He seems to prefer playing as a LCM where he plays behind the ball. That means Mudryk would play inside and Cucurella as a touchline hugging LB and I'm not sure I like that dynamic.

Ultimately, I think he's a great signing. They essentially got a more industrious version of Kroos.

Jorginho is a good signing imo. He gives extra passes in midfield, and that's really helpful when you want to control a game especially if you have a lead. It seems like he'll be a rotational option with Partey, but I could see Jorginho starting big games as DM instead.

Cancelo is shit defensively. I actually think he's worse than Trent in that regard. City fans will bring up his duel success by showing his high tackling percentage or aerial duel win percentage, but then disregard Cancelo gets embarrassed 1v1, has a brainfart every few games, and is woeful at playing the offside trap.

That being said though, he's one of the few fullbacks who can win games all on his own. He's a better creator than most attacking midfielders. Laughing

So he's obviously useful because of that, but I'm not sure if Pep ever truly liked him as a player. Cancelo's risk assessment when it comes to playing FB is genuinely awful. He loses the ball too much in areas he shouldn't be losing them in. Pep benched him in the big CL games, Santos benched him in the WC knockouts, and he wasn't trusted all that much in Serie A either.

Combine that with his shit attitude where he thinks he should be starting every game, then you're left with a potential dressing room cancer. Pep's trying to rally the troops for one last title charge, and getting rid of Cancelo creates a better atmosphere within the team.

The only issue is they don't have anyone to replace him. I know City plays a 3-4-3 these days, but your LB options are essentially Ake and Sergio Gomez, and Gomez has been awful whenever he's played. Don't be surprised if we see Foden start there one of these days. Laughing

There's nothing Grealish does that Mitoma can't. In fact Mitoma is probably a better winger since he can actually dribble on the outside and strike through the ball.

Looking at Grealish and Antony, I think clubs should stay clear from spending 100M on wingers. They're the worst risk-reward investments.

seems like it's a gamble to buy anyone from that Argentina WC winning team. They performed at a high level but you have to factor in the Messi effect, and Benfica has produced Darwin and Felix as of late who havent been very successful either

Anyways this transfer effectively means that Premier League spending for this winter amounts to €763M, compared to €20M in La Liga Cool

He played only half a year in Benfica, and they lost one game I think, drawing PSG twice. Benfica making insane bank on this, 10M->120M in half a year. Very Happy Although 25% of it will go to River.

I would pay to see Haaland play as an offensive fullback Laughing He's also shit at timing his tackles, and I wouldn't count on him doing very well defensively despite having physical attributes of an ideal CB, but it would be hilarious to see him sprint up and down the flank. Maybe he'd be able to showcase some of his creativity and passing again as well. I feel like that part of his game has completely vanished at City, which is quite ironic considering the type of football that City are known for.
